Yep, they are okay. I keep the brightness down, and it seems to help.

I found it at a local secondhand store where they thought it was damaged. It would have been early 2009 since I took the picture a few months after.

nintendoloz In reply to rocketwhite222 [2017-05-19 03:29:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I should have explained that.
They thought it was damaged because it wouldn't turn on for them, but it had the upgraded AC Adapter pack instead of the battery pack that was original. They had 4 batteries in the compartment when I bought it, even though you could tell that they didn't belong in there.

That's great, right? That's like the cherry on a hot fudge sundae. But how would you like to play bad games AND have a headache, too?

That doesn't sound too fun at all. Would the game being played be easy on the eyes and maybe soothe the headache?

I should really update this picture...
I was getting ready to move out of my parents house at the time, and I couldn't find all of my games. I do have Mario Clash and VB Wario Land.

Well, I finally tested it.

The system's right display is broken.
Quite a letdown, though Vertical Force is still operational.

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-16 03:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh no! D: Are you going to try and get a refund for it? I looked up the problem and it looks like it's fixable, but it's not easy...

I checked mine a few minutes ago, and it's screen is out also. It was fine a couple of months ago and has never been dropped. I'll be trying that fix asap.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-16 04:19:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, even if the whole headset was broken I still wouldn't return it.
The stand alone is usually worth $60+.

It doesn't look like a difficult fix, though I really don't like dismantling anything.
Not a fan of baking computer chips, so i'll see if I can solder the thingy later.

Soon as I pay off some bills and buy a bit piece to unscrew the screws to open it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-16 13:40:28 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think of that... I'm sure the foam piece is pretty expensive too. Most I see are missing that too.

Oh, most people I talk to on here don't know how to solder, so I usually just assume that. If you know how to solder, then it is pretty easy.

Getting it apart seems to be the hardest part.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-16 14:18:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the whole process seems like an easy fix.
And the damage seems as natural as simple glue corrosion.

SO if anything it's just age to blame.
Regardless though, i'll need to get a game bit to open the darn thing.

Vallie [2014-01-31 23:35:48 +0000 UTC]

You know personally, I always wanted one of these..

If anything simply to enjoy the Wario game, and Jack Bros~
I always thought it was cool...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-01 01:12:07 +0000 UTC]

Well, they're not too much nowadays. Do you think you might pick one up eventually?

The game that I originally wanted it for was VB Starfox. Even though it never come out, the VB still has a pretty good lineup of games.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-01 08:27:18 +0000 UTC]

I am still considering it..
I'd really just need a place to put it, as my room is already too much of a clutter.

Despite the complaints, I thought the whole red/black thing was quite cool.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-01 21:51:24 +0000 UTC]

Luckily it doesn't take up too much space. If you do get one though, I recommend trying to get one with the AC adapter. The batteries work, but it's easier and cheaper to just plug it into the wall. X)

Yeah, most of those complaints were because they were using it incorrectly. With the brightness toned down, I've been able to play for 2 hours straight. When I cranked it up I barely made it 10 minutes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-02 02:02:17 +0000 UTC]

Truth be told, I would truly like to get one.
But the clutter in my room is simply unreal as it is.

Though at the same time I can't see them going down in price in the near future.
I just gotta find a badass deal I can't refuse.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-02 23:20:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't realize it was that bad...

I glanced on ebay, and I see what you mean. A year or two ago they were barely breaking $100, but now it's hard to find them for under that. The cheapest one I can find that works is for $40.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-03 01:17:20 +0000 UTC]

Truth be told, I am just considering not getting one.

Simply because there is an emulator for the Virtual Boy, made specifically for the Oculus Rift.

And... well, I imagine it's practically the same experience.
Only minus the uncomfort and potential eye-strain.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-03 11:41:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't know someone already made that for the Oculus Rift.
It probably would be the same, apart from the controller. Unless, they made it compatible.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-03 12:02:31 +0000 UTC]

Truthfully, I don't remember the Virtual Boy experience too much as I only rented it once.
So whether or not it is true to the real deal is up in the air, and I was hoping someone would have had both to verify this.

As much as I love the true original Virtual Boy, given it's prices in recent eras I fear it may be more econonomical I just wait until the rift sees an official release.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-04 23:26:20 +0000 UTC]

I haven't had any experience with the Oculus Rift, but it seems like it's capable of emulating it well. If the gameplay is mostly what you're after it might be a better alternative. At least it can do other things.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-11 00:08:04 +0000 UTC]

Well I couldn't help myself.
See, I didn't want to wait another year (At LEAST) for the good Oculus.

I wanted to get some kind of VR fix now to hold me down.
So! I found a deal at amazon that had the console, controller, stand, just was missing the AC adapter for like.. $80 altogether?

Though I just so happen to have the AC Adapter for my SNES which now rest eternally incased in a glass PSX display unit.
I must ask though.
Will I need that battery pack thingy to connect it to?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-11 11:59:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that's pretty good price.
It sounds like the one you ordered might have the battery pack with it. (They usually don't mention the battery pack for some reason...) The AC Adapter is a separate piece that goes on the back of the controller where the battery pack is. On the top of the controller will be a small tab, when you push it down, it slides the pack off so you can attach the adapter. I looked on ebay, and it looks like there is a listing for official ones for $25.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-11 12:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's good then~

The only thing they specified it didn't come with was the AC adapter.
But regardless, from my personal view, I think getting it with the legs is the hard part. (AKA the 'stand')

The listing I got apparently comes with the stand and everything else, but well i'll have to wait and see.
Also I ordered in Mario Tennis & Wario Land.

As I got Vertical Force for free long ago..
(Found it in a children's toybox at the dojo I was attending at the time and I felt it was criminal to leave it in there)
*My money says it still works too as persistant as gamecarts can be*

But! I just need to find a rediculously good deal on Red Alarm and i'm set~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-14 00:22:54 +0000 UTC]

I know you can get the AC adapter for pretty cheap. You're right the stand though, they almost never sell it alone.

It sounds like you've got a pretty good lineup of games though. The console and carts are are pretty durable though, so the Vertical Force one should be fine. :3.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-14 22:32:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, it has everything, except for the AC, and the AC Tap.
So until I can get a Tap, I can just kind of use batteries.

But I think I came off fortunate considering I only paid $80 for all of it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nintendoloz In reply to Vallie [2014-02-15 01:49:27 +0000 UTC]

If you do use the batteries, sick with normal ones. I've tried lithium and they barely last an hour longer.

Yeah, most of the ones I see are over $100 and they normally don't have the stand.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vallie In reply to nintendoloz [2014-02-15 01:54:59 +0000 UTC]

I am glad to confirm, the one I got does indeed have the stand, the black end ajuster thingy, the headpiece and the controller all in fantastic shape~
Really the only thing I need now is several dust covers for Wario & Vertical Force, and to buy a Controller Tap for the AC to connect to.

In good news, when the Oculus sees release (most likely late 2015), i'll be able to do a proper comparison to see how well Oculus emulation holds up versus the real deal.

I've heard that Virtual Boy is the worst Nintendo console ever made! It causes seizures, headaches, nausea, blindness, eye strains and stiff necks. It is really bad for the eyes. It was released in 1995 only in Japan and North America including the USA and Canada and it has never been released in Europe and Australia before. Nintendo did eventually discontinue it in 1996 due to sale failure and its popularity's very low.

Thank god, I have played this before. I live in Ireland and I never saw Virtual Boy consoles or games in some shops.

Nobody wants to buy that piece of crap.

nintendoloz In reply to JosephpR1990 [2014-01-21 23:47:35 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I'm gonna break this down in sections...

*It was only out a year because it didn't sell as many as they would have liked it to. I blame their timing for that problem. The Gameboy Pocket and N64 were being talked about in 1995 and most people were waiting for them to come out before they blew their money on this. Including developers... They started showing an interest right before the N64 and GBC came out, but it was too late. We were left with previews of some great looking games that had to be canned.

*You pretty much listed the same symptoms that people have with the 3DS when using the 3D feature. I've tested with mine, and the only time I get any of those symptoms is when the brightness is all the way up. When I crank it down the problems go away. The neck stiffness is from people who were playing it at an awkward angle. If someone watches their iPad while it sits on top of a bookcase, is it the iPads fault, or is it because of their own stupidity?

*If a system fails because of how long it's been out, the Gameboy Light is the winner. It came out April 1998 and discontinued November 1998. Wasn't out long enough to make it anywhere but Japan.

nintendoloz In reply to francisjairam121 [2013-12-06 12:06:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh, again with the AVGN quotes...
It's got the same problem that the 3DS has with 3D effects... most people don't like them. They complain that it hurts their eyes, and they don't give a real 3D experience. All I know is that the VB gives a unique gaming experience, and is fun to play. Is it a little awkward, yes. Does it stop it from being a great little system, no. The technology was inventive for that time, and to fit it all inside that one little unit was pretty remarkable.
