Some of Skull Island’s more active predators, the dreaded venatosauras are a force to be reckoned with. These semi bipedal lizards are descendants of the Varanid family. Like a few of their relatives, venatosauras are venomous although they rely more on brute strength to bring down their prey. The warm tropical climate of Skull Island makes it a paradise for large reptiles as they have to spend much less time basking to retain their body heat then they would elsewhere. Venatosauras come together in packs of five or more to hunt some of the island’s mightiest herbivores, the brontochelys. By strategically positioning themselves around an unsuspecting herd of preferably young (and less armoured) tortoises the venatosauras can drive the herbivores into natural traps like cliffs and narrow valleys with dead ends. A brontochelys stampede will always guarantee plenty of meat for even the largest venatosauras pack. Whatever is left is cleaned up by vastatosuchus and scavengers like carnivorous birds and smaller relatives of the venatosaura.
