Description
Machairoceras is a large, social and unusually ornamented psittacopod living in the forests of Subterramundus.
Machairoceras are known for their elaborate courtship rituals involving complex vocals, dances and precise positioning of their display structures. Their shoulder displays, which other psittacopods are used to make themselves look bigger to threats, contain long mobile strands like those of certain birds of paradise. The characteristic horn is longer in males and used both in courtship and in warding off predators.

Courtship dances include a lot of leaping, flashing shoulder feathers and complex vocalisation. Each male has his own unique combination of elaborate moves and sounds. Females particularly favour males that display high endurance and long lasting courtship.

As with other psittacopods, Machairoceras has a strong sharp beak used for cracking fruit, nuts and roots. Machairoceras also shares its relatives’ dexterous hands and feet which are both used for manipulating food, digging nests and dispatching small predators.
