Description
Ornithognathids are a clade of herbivorous theropods native to Subterramundus. These descendants of ornithomimosaurs retain their ancestors’ diet of varied vegetation and bird like appearance.
Ornithognathus, the clade’s namesake, is a mid sized animal that feeds on all manner of forest vegetation and occasionally eggs and small animals like lizards. Males are exceptional nest builders, constructing vast networks of walls and niches to impress the females.
The largest ornithognathid, and largest of all non-carnivorous theropods, is gigasaueonychus grandii, a huge beast filling the niche of the extinct therizinosaurus and deinocheirus. Gigasauronychus are capable of feeding on all manner of forest and wetland vegetation. They are also highly omnivorous and frequently swallow fish and other wetland animals.
In both gigasauronychus and ornithognathus the males are slightly larger with blue patterning on their heads and necks, respectively.
