Um, I was wondering how much it would cost to commission a piece like this from you? I'm trying to figure a unique wedding ring for my fiance... We are probably going to be getting married in another year or so, and I would love to get him something really special. Thanks!

send me a note with what you're looking for, and i'll give you an estimate. if you are looking for rough stones, i'll have to search for some ...my old supplier no longer sells them.

do you do all the setting yourself?
and that looks great for how cheap it is

matteviL In reply to matteviL [2007-01-19 09:29:33 +0000 UTC]

no. sorry, i knew it might have been taken that way
i just meant construction costs.
i also am a bit of a jeweler. started last year but i only ever do simple wedder type stuff and i couldnt set to save my life.
(guess i should post some stuff here)

i think your work is quite great

i make everything i've posted, so, yes.

for how cheap it is? i don't recall posting a price, is that an attempt at an insult?

Just gorgeous. I love the industrial feel your pieces have. My firs tension set stone fell out, but I'm getting better at it!

noformdesign In reply to kiki-b [2006-12-17 22:48:54 +0000 UTC]

thanks. what kind of stone did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kiki-b In reply to noformdesign [2006-12-18 09:20:30 +0000 UTC]

A pretty oval-cut pink tourmaline. I would love to get my hands on some uncut stones though, I think they're so much more fun.

that's very crisp and refreshing feel to see rough stones.

so you said it went quickly, how long would that be? just curious

Excellent work, as always. Do you find it more challenging to set rough stones?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noformdesign In reply to starglo21 [2006-12-14 18:52:00 +0000 UTC]

thanks. it was a challenge at first. as with most things, the more you do it, the easier it gets.

i wish i could remember what i did with the rough sapphire i bought.

Ellygator [2006-12-13 13:52:59 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful! It's great you found three stones that were still uniform enough to get into the same tension setting despite the fact that they still each look very unique. The sparkle they have, even when uncut is astounding.

Rough Stones = The Win!
The almost stark band is a perfect contrast to the stones. Hope yuo get some more (larger) rough ones soon!

hey thanks!
i've been meaning to congratulate you on your award. congratulations! that's sooo cool! did you take any photo's of the event?

KateStehr In reply to noformdesign [2006-12-12 22:07:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the congrats! Was a bit of a shock to receive it considering the level of the other sculptors work. No photos of the ceremony as I didn't take a camera, but I'm trying to track down the official sort as we speak.

But I'll post some scrap photos soon of the exhibition set up.

Cheers,
K.

I love uncut diamonds but I hardly ever get the pleasure of seeing them used in a finished piece - brilliant work.

i've made sooooo many tension set rings (kinda getting bored with them, but don't tell anybody) that a basic one with a cut stone takes even less time. this one was a bit more of a challenge due to the uneven edges and difference in sizes.

thanks.

wonderfully simple and elegant! Is it just a channel setting in a stainless steel tube cross-section?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noformdesign In reply to el-woopo [2006-12-05 05:09:39 +0000 UTC]

for this piece i had to start with a solid round. it's a tension setting, but i had to cut the seat for the rough stones different from a cut stone.
