Description Arwen and Elrond enjoy a tale told by Elrohir of his and Elladan's adventures with Dunedain in the North.

I was reading The Return of the King this afternoon and for some horrid reason I thought of Liv Tyler when someone mentioned Arwen (if I am allowed to complain about one thing abou t those movies, it would be her casting)
So I set about drawing my own version of Arwen, and it turned out almost how I originally saw her.
I also thought I'd throw in the rest of her family while I was at it.

I haven't drawn anything ages, so this was really relaxing. And I don't usually draw fan art, so yeah...
...

I have to say I like your Arwen more than the one in the movies.
And this scene is really sweet

This is totally awesome! I love the idea of all of them simply sitting around talking; just being a family, really.

But yeah, I hate it when the movie versions of characters intrude into my head when reading the book. Very annoying.
With LotR, none of the actors in the movies looked like I imagined the characters...Vigo did a great job as Aragorn, but he looks nothing like I first imagined Aragorn. Same with all the hobbits; I imagined all of them older, somehow, especially Frodo. But that's not to say anything against the actors; they were all wonderful. They just didn't look anything like I imagined everyone. Which, I suppose, is the downfall of any movie based on a book. They need to come up with an imagination reader that would make every character in a movie based on a book look like what each person watching it first imagined the character to look like in the book...Sweet! Impossible, probably, but cool to imagine.
But back to the point of this comment, your lovely art! It is wonderfully done, and you captured the "looks young, but has obviously lived long and done much" quality in Elrond's face. Love it!

Why were you disappointed in Liv Tyler being cast as Arwen? I'm just curious.

I probably watched Empire Records too much as a teenager and can't see her outside of those kind of roles. Plus she is too pouty and... human looking.

Really? I always thought she Looked like the elves should look, but her acting, meh.

Sweet! And I agree about Liv Tyler; she doesn't have the right voice or peersonality, and I just don't picture Tolkien's fair elf-maiden having that big square jaw. Tyler's not bad-looking, but she always reminds me of the MtF transsexuals I've met. And since Martin Csokas--Celeborn--had the same jaw, the director really must have wanted his elves to look like that.

But I know I'm an irrationally bitchy viewer in general; having the ADD-related sensory overload problem (similar to Asberger's), I react badly to a lot of things, especially clumsy acting (cf Csokas/Celeborn again) and presence.

Nobody could possibly say that Aragorn was badly acted, but to me Viggo Mortensen didn't have the sharp edge needed for either Strider's genuine air of menace or Elessar's kingly presence; the one actor I can think of who could have pulled both off is Daniel Day-Lewis. But I *know* I'm an oddball; if anyone else in the *world* found the brilliant Mortensen less than perfect for the role, I'll eat my hat. And it's a tough little canvas hat, too, which would be hard on my teeth.

There are reasons why I'm not a formal movie critic--aside from the fact that I'm a dumpy middle-aged woman with no qualifications. I've got no eye for camera techniques--a friend had to tell me that one movie I'd just watched began with a single ten-minute tracking shot, or whatever--and directorial skills don't stand out for me. I just want to be able to suspend disbelief while the story is occurring, and my twitchy brain makes me overreact to clumsy acting, overly predictable plots, lines that nobody would actually say, and so on.

It's why I'm SO in love with the BBC series "Sherlock"; they're ahead of me with every step. So were most episodes of Buffy, for that matter. But I have friends who love Supernatural, which I've only seen some early episodes of but made my teeth hurt with every obvious line badly spoken. I'm not being smugly snobbish, either; I'd do anything short of killing to be able to enjoy all the shows my friends love. But the sensory overload that makes bad acting and bad dialogue stand out is an incurable mental tinnitus I can't shut down.

Whew! Sorry to be babbling; I'm just glad to hear from another person for whom Liv Tyler never managed to be Arwen, so I can stop feeling so guilty about it.

Lizzie: I'm sorry, I love your depiction of Arwen, but I loved Liv Tyler's alot more.. I also thought Hugo Weaving was the best as Elrond both in the hobbit and in the trilogy... And everyone mentioned before in my comment was a whole lot better than the animation version of LotR from the 70s'!!!!

What I wouldn't give to hang out with them sharing stories over fine elven wine.

Also I like the pointier ears here better. Its more like the Lord of the rings online game then the movie but It underlines their elvenness better and helps distinguish them.

I really love this - you give the boys a lanky quality that makes 'em look otherworldy, which of course is perfect.

However, I kind of fell in love with Liv Tyler as Arwen. I think she did a lovely job.

Absolutely stunning, they all look beautiful. I haven't got any problems with Liv as Arwen, but your version is gorgeous as well and more importantly, also really 'fits'- I can immediately see her as Arwen. Love the enthusiastic-story-telling twins. Hmm, if there really was a casting-choice I didn't like, it would be Hugo Weaving. He's not as beautiful as I really expect Elves to constantly be, but that would be difficult anyway. He just looks so plain *annoyed* and grumpy at the whole world and everyone the whole time, it bugs me

And I love that lamp, lol.

Thanks! That was kinda my goal. Ever since the movies came out I sometimes loose my original image of the character, and that really pisses me off.
Not that they didn't do a good job at casting (aside from Arwen) but they still are not the way I see them

Although I liked Liv in the films, probabbly because I saw the films first, but still.... could have been worse. Thats just my opinion, simply because I think shes purdy. and I like Arwen in general.
