You know, I think I might've gotten Peach / Daisy mixed up with the Yoshis now that I look at the Koopa Troop's set...because my original formula would place the Paratroopas as the Bishops (or Sergeants in this case), but Knights can go pretty darn far, and the wings would help that...oh, now I'm all confused!

The pieces next to Bowser/Mario and Wario/Luigi-are they Knights or Bishops?

Yup! Actually, if I had to do this again, I would choose different characters for some of them. For example, the Rooks in the Koopa team would be Thwomps instead of Cannons (that was not very creative, setting Cannons on both teams). Boos could do the trick as Bishops or Knights

Well for Bowser's team, I think:
King = Bowser (Duh )
Queen(?) = Bowser Jr.
Knight = Koopa Paratrooper
Bishop = Boo
Rook = Thwomp
Pawn = Still Goombas.

lol, that's hilarious. I really like the cartoony style; Mario characters tend to lend themselves well to this sort of thing. I especially like Bowser's medals; nice use of the original game sprites.
