there was this guy a few years ago who said that the world was ending and I got scared and started crying but when I found out he was wrong, I said the guy must have sucked at math. And the Mayan calendar ended in 2012... it just amazes me that people 1,000 years ago even HAD THE SLIGHTEST IDEA of years such as 1975, 1994, and 2010. WOW. JUST WOW.Β

Yes, the Myaan's had a Clock/Calender that ended on that day, but Myann had there own beliefs just like people have to day, that was there theory.

People assume space is a three dimensional ball (or in this case a two dimensional sky), it's not.
In fourth dimensional space-time there are never any "true" alignments.

Most people don't know what would actually happen on 2012. So I will tell you.
In the year 2012 either in April or December (I can't remember which month) a Meteor will be passing by our planet Earth! A science magazine then got a hold on this information and then started telling people that a giant meteor will be hitting Earth, but that was a very false statement, Yes it is true a meteor will be passing by Earth, but not hitting it not only that but in about 36 years from 2012 the same meteor again will be passing by Earth, but a little closer this time; but it still wont hit us. AND That is the truth about 2012 and the idea of the world ending was originally by a magazine that desperately needed readers.
Also since some of you are talking about an apocalypse, the end of the probably wont be caused from an apocalypse but rather our own down fall and human ways. Also I can't stand it when people say "the end of the world" BECAUSE when all Humans seize to exist this will only be the end of Humanity not the end of the world, nature will live on, "There was life before people, and there will be life after people" UNDERSTAND THAT!

You have Apophis mixed up with the wrong years; according to Sky and Telescope Apophis will make a key pass in 2029 with another pass in 2036.
How the object speeds up or slows down on it's 2029 pass will set up the final path for 2036 and beyond.
As for your second statement, a Gamma Ray Burst is very much capable of sterilizing the planet...as they say "just saying"

Actually, in the bible the Apocalypse isn't referring to the end of the world but the time Jesus takes all those who worship God to heavan. And this happens to be on the day the world ends. Religiously speaking the Apocalypse will happen during the end of the world, not cause it.
