Description In Jewish mythology, Mastema carries out punishments for Jehovah, tempts humans, and tests their faith. He is also considered to be the angel of disaster, father of evil, and a flatterer of Jehovah. According to the Book of Jubilees, he is the chief of all the demons that were engendered by the Grigori, and before Jehovah initiated the Great Flood he beseeched him to grant him control over a tenth of these demons in order to exercise authority. The death of all the firstborn of Egypt during the Ten Plagues was said to be the work of the powers of Mastema. He is believed to be the Satan, as in the Adversary, who fulfills the function of the adversary under Jehovah's will.

I actually have an original backstory for Mastema. He is a demon who chose to work for Jehovah in order to protect his kind. He served as a prosecutor for him and enforced his will, but when after he was forced to kill all the firstborn of Egypt, he finally couldn't take it anymore and broke from Jehovah's will. After that, he began to rebel against Jehovah in a desire to stop his plans and restore his honor in the eyes of demonkind.
