Description I finished this one a bit late. It was supposed to be in honor of 's birthday. He's a Travis fan (as am I), so I thought it would be a nice gesture.

It was *supposed* to be a little sketch. But Travis can be illusive in the best of circumstances, so I ran with it as long as he'd let me. I got this far.

Not bad ... I think.

So Happy Birthday! (late)

(Now back to work.)

Character, story and art (C) *NuisanceBearEull

Story part you don't have to read:

Travis has lived in the Venetian Lagoon longer than the city of Venice itself. He watched from his island as it was built and wondered why the hell anyone would want to build something like that.

He is not alive and he is not dead. He has passed into the realm of all other creatures of this nature (gods and spirits and such).

Once he got used to the idea of the city being there, he would visit from time to time and meet the people there. He's managed to make some interesting friends over the years.

One of these friends was Giacomo Casanova. Okay, maybe not friends ... fascinated acquaintances would be more accurate. When the parties really started to get crazy, he'd try to slip out. For a man with his abilities, the most discreet way to do it was to slip into one of the canals and make his way home through the water.

Later, when recounting the wildest of those parties, he would close the story by saying: "And we never did find the hooker's teeth." It made Maria laugh.

I like how you've done the underwater dynamics, the lighting and the story that comes with it.

I like the flow and details in this. Also, how he is looking at the boat and the light to make it look underwater.

The idea behind this drawing is great I think you captured the movement of the "water" greatly! I think this really shows some great dynamics.

Whoops sorry.
This is a fantastic gift and a beautiful piece of work of a character that does stay quiet too often!

Now I'm finished. Will go and sew now...

The funny thing is when I saw this sketch, it looked to me like there was a bit of a whirlwind going on. I know that's odd because I know Travis has aquatic abilities.
So now seeing the full pic I understand now!

It's a good thing he doesn't find anything worse than a pair of false teeth in those canals.

The greenish hue here is so fantastic. I imagine the canals not being the purest of water and having algae would be spot on. The wig, broken pieces of ceramic and the mirror are such great details. I also really like the pattern on the sash. Who is that in the mirror by the way?
It's a shame Travis has to wear a wig when he has such a great head of hair himself!
I also like how you have him planting his foot in the dirt as if he's running, or pushing off to swim.

I remember seeing this sketch, the final product is awesome, your underwater themed pics never fail to make me stop and look. I may have to corner Travis one day and ask him nicely (force him seems a little disrespectful) to tell me some stories.

I don't know why I choose to torture myself with underwater stuff. Probably because of the free-form aspect. But it works, so ... awesome!

It wouldn't take much to get him to talk. He tends to run off at the mouth if no one is around to tell him to be quiet.

Thanks much!

This is gorgeous.

The textures in this piece are amazing. For some reason, I really love the algae. And the (not-so-random) debris floating around.

And, of course, Travis. ^^ I love getting insight into his story (and seeing him in various states of undress. ).

I dare say (and I really hope that no one takes offense to this) this is the best art I've ever been gifted.

Thanks very much!

The algae was an afterthought, but a personal favorite. It fixed a major composition problem I was having.

I thought you might like the losing of clothing. Usually he's kind of shy, but he was promised it was for a good cause.

I think I see the hooker's teeth along the side there, just above the bottle. Though I wouldn't recommend returning them, Travis. Who knows where they've been.

In his rush, I'm pretty sure he didn't notice. And like hell he was going to touch them ... again. It was a long and strange night.
Thanks!

i love what th green lightlighting does to the scene, it kinda gives it an earie tone, not sure if inentional or not, but very well done.

That was fairly intentional. It was just my luck that the water in that area is really murky.
Thanks very much!
