The art of the modern sitcom is portrayed here, wherein the laughtrack randomly goes off with no other reason than walking down some steps is as funny as everything they say."I'm tired, I think I'l go to bed." Ha! Ha! Ha!
"Or, is dinner ready yet?" Ha! Ha! Ha! hah! Everything and nothing is funny.
Well, hats off to them. "Ha ha ha ha ha.

I read a thread on a washinton post story about Ricky Gervais' hosting of the Golden Globes this morning and the thread shows that there is a huge chasm between what the people want and what the entertainment providers think we want (BTW I haven't seen the Gervais footage nor am I really a fan of his but nor am I agin' him). Seems he was genuinely funny but the industry has decided to label it a "meltdown" and "poorly considered" since it wasn't vetted by a pack of lawyers first.
This gulf is very evident if you consider the fantastic melange that masquerades as Science Fiction in the media. It has coloured a whole generation's view of the genre before they get to the profound stuff like Clarke and Asimov and Bradbury.

Suddenly I have an image of the chorus from Lysistrata, Old man masks and huge wooden phallii. They don't write 'em like that any more.

I don't know. this is a pretty scary painting (well to me)....just like sitcoms.
the difference is I love this painting but do not love sitcoms.

Sitcoms are horrid, and get worse and worse. I only see them as I jump channels. Occasionally I stop to see if the'll move the stone in my face. No. It just gets stonier. And all I can ever think, and I say it out loud, is: "That's supposed to be funny?"

It's about, umm, sitcoms? Well, it's about something, but painted with no malice of forethought.

One of the sitcom 'faces' is giving a speech right up to the sky, which is kind of pompous. But, instead of gods, there are cross-eyed bats! and even higher - a yellow angry thingie looking down.
Just goes to show showbusiness and seriousness don't mix.

If that yellow thingy is on the top left that's a Gumby. Gumby slips into many paintings unbidden.

In fact, that was my pallet for a couple of my Happy Japanese girls, at least that's the way it started. then it gets turned into an abstract on an 8"x10" canvas. Waste not, want not.
After I'm done with the painting(s) I smish the paint around, see what I can see in the random shapes, refine that and voila! I got an abstract, me.

You never know what you're going to get when you smish the paint around. I get so caught up with happy japanese girls lately that I shove other styles that need to be painted to the side without thinking.
