Oh what a wonderful shot I love this one. The babies are so sweet looking. I wonder the same thing, how do they put ring on the babies, I would think the mother wouldnt want them near her babies.

Thanks Lucy! This is what I said to Melissa about ringing - "They basically climb up to the nest, they sometimes do the actual ringing on the ground as supposedly safer. I've never seen it done but I am sure the parents will not be happy about it. Everything gets back to normal very quickly after they have done it though, it's like nothing happened after a short amount of time. So they basically think it is worth the small amount of upset as helps us understand and better protect the birds in long run."

No, she would definitely have been around. I am sure it is very stressful for her but is thankfully over quickly and they do seem to recover/forget about it very quickly. It is hard to exlain but it has benefits for the future of the species. A ringed bird is less likely to be killed by humans on it's migration also, they go through some countries that don't remotely care about ospreys. They are Grade 1 protected species here in Scotland.

I understand the benefits of it I was just wonder how they did
it with the mother around her being the way she is with her babies.
I think they need to rid the world of humans instead.

They basically climb up to the nest, the mum will be around and won't be happy about it. It is a shame to put her through the stress but thankfullly she seems to recover from it quickly. Yeah she is very protective but as far as I know ospreys rarely attack people. If you tried doing that on a seagull nest they certainly wouldn't hold back!

How are they able to ring them though when mother is around them....I would not think that they would be used to  humans going into the nest?

Awww I feel so bad thinking about that because they are defenseless against humans not like other birds they can fight if they need too. You know animals have it tough in this world.

Yeah in an ideal world we would just be able to leave them completely alone, sure the earth would manage just fine without us. They were basically extinct here not that long ago and are Grade A prtoected bird now. They journey through places that are not safe on their travels and supposedly people are less likely to target a ringed bird. So if that is true I think it is worth the short amount of stress, they do seem to get over it quickly.

Oh I do totally agree with you Craig. I know the Lord made put these beautiful creatures on this earth for us to enjoy their beauty not to abuse them or kill them unless it was a matter of survival

We have done a huge amount of damage in such a tiny amount of time compared to how long birds and animals have been on planet. Ospreys were persecuted to extinction in the UK not that long ago, the Victorians were terrible for it with feathers for their hats etc Thankfully there are people who do great work to give these birds a chance again. You see it in the US with bears losing their territories due to humans taking over everywhere. They then come into contact with us. I love bears and think they are so misunderstood, they just want a peaceful life really. It is really hard for these animals to move around as they used to do without encountering people.

It's all so sad what common people did to this world. I never watch the news as there is too much hate and sadness all around us. I wish I could go somewhere and leave this world behind.
