Mi-24 is one of the best and innovative choppers of all times . It is unusual combination of transport and heavy assault chopper .  It is armed to the teeth , it can transport 8 persons , it can be armed with various rockets ( I wouldn't be surprised if it could be armed with Air to Air missiles ) and it is heavy armored meaning without a good rocket launcher you won't shot it down . Unfourtunately stinger trick won't work anymore because now we have flares and jamming devices . Before USA delivered stingers Mi-24 was the  mujahideens worst nightmare ( they called it the devil's chariot ) as they couldn't shot it down with their weapons while this chopper could mow  them down in seconds and it could decimate whole areas of them  in one go . There was once a situation when rebells were spotted by it and by mere sight and dangerous maneuvers (that chopper  was out of ammo ) scramed with their pants crapped . Black hawk can't hold a candle towards the crocodile . Mi-24 conception will be forever inspiration for future choppers while BH not .

It's pretty much a flying infantry fighting vehicle with rotors and rockets and missiles (complete with a bunch of heliborne Spetsnaz to shoot you in person after the gunship's finished turning your friends into mincemeat).

The concept is like that of Orkz mekboys , but it works VERY effectively
It combines transport with great armur 'dn bigga Dakka plus it can transport your boyz AND IT WORKS . I always say that what is simple is the best .

mi24 is an assault transport helicopter (only of its kind)
un are using anything they are given to its full potential
if you think that us helicopters are better than i have to say you are wrong (russian attack helicopters(mi28 which is better in many aspects than its us counterpart ah64, ka50 and ka52 whose counterpart rah66 comanche was never finished and many others) are really good. Problem is that most of them aren't mass produced like americans (46 mi28 - are you kidding), because russia has really bad goverment(of course if you can call them so), all members of which are stealing enormous sums from budget)
but in a few years china will have not only the most powerfull army, but also most technologically advanced (their new prototypes show clear signs of both us and ussr designs) because they know what to do and how to do it

Yup. Nothing says 'you're going to die' than a Mi-24 coming down at you with cannon blazing and rockets firing.

It's been months since I last talked to you..

Very nice chopper, though I'm not quite sure on the white highlight under the cockpit. My dad's making a 1/32 Hind E and it is quite flat at the top view.

Mm? White highlight where?

HamCrumbs In reply to Nyandgate [2009-08-16 13:01:38 +0000 UTC]

It's quite hard to explain as it is unnoticeable.

under the cockpit.. the white shade from the red insignia going up. I ain't good at explaining lol..

Oooh, yeah, that's what I figured you were talking about. Yeah, I was a bit unsure about putting that there, since the reference photographs I had were kinda vague about how the fuselage was shaped there. Then again, all of the photos either had the fuselage at a different angle or the light source somewhere else, so I was kinda unsure how the light would hit that area. I tried a few different ways of highlighting, and this one looked the best. Before I put it there, the fuselage looked kinda papery and flat.

Yeah, you've got a point there, plus, it's a fictional chopper anyways..

Nyandgate In reply to HamCrumbs [2009-08-17 12:50:32 +0000 UTC]

Only half fictional. Most of the helo I ripped off of the South African 'Super Hind' project.

I'm going to be terribly mature and say that it totally looks like there's a pair of boobs on your helicopter.

Yeah, I know, the Soviets have a certain sense when designing attack helicopters. Not very feminine when it comes to blasting Afghan guerillas back to the Stone Age, if you ask me.

Still, it's a lot cooler-looking than the UH-1.

Thanks, and thanks for the favorite

The chopper's done, so all I have to do is get a background... which is a lot easier said than done, seeing as I've never been particularly good at drawing scenery...

Panzerfire In reply to Nyandgate [2009-08-15 14:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... drawings the scenery background is always a bit complicated. =/

That could work. I was also thinking in photoshopping some screenshots from Google Earth to make good backgrounds for my dogfight pictures.

I've done that once. Have you seen the Su-37 vector I did, the one where the fighter is zooming over a desert city? Google Earth of... Tehran I think.

Nyandgate In reply to Panzerfire [2009-08-21 00:53:19 +0000 UTC]

Didn't you just do a piece with two fighter jets duking it out over my hometown? That was pretty awesome. My computer's pisspoor graphics chip can't handle the 3D modeling in Google Earth.

Panzerfire In reply to Nyandgate [2009-08-21 02:13:54 +0000 UTC]

That's too bad. You can get some awesome views with GE.

Though I'm bugged by the fact my monitor resolution limits the size of the screenshots I can take.

..Well, starting September, that won't be a problem - I'm planning to buy a brand spanking new computer which I've been saving up for for three years. Custom desktop most likely - it'll have to be, because I plan to use it through college too.

Anyway, enough digressing - gonna go over and comment on your dogfight piece, where I'll be relevant
