Description I drew this back in August (I think) while at the doctors and even had it colored and almost fully shaded. Then I just kinda forgot about it until today while I was browsing through my limbo folder for something quick and easy to finish up and post before work.

MERCEDES HAD DIFFERENT PLANS.

I WAS planning to take a nap, but yeeeeeah it didn't work out like I planned 'cuz this muse demanded I finish it now. Everytime I thought I was done and checked the file to make sure it was ready to post, I found something else to fix/correct/etc.

I will say I'm happy with the end result--ffffffanatomyerrorstoofarintofixFML--and while the lighting fought me every step of the way, I'm very proud of the smaller details in Mercedes' hair and the snake's scales.

That said, while I'm happy with it:

Critique you? HOKAY. *throws horrible critique your way*

I love the shading style, the clothes, and the overall design of this picture. It has quite a bit of depth to it!
The only thing that I see is, there might be some need for detail on the snake, and the shoulders of Mercedes are a bit short. Mostly her right shoulder. Though I can see what you were aiming for, and you shouldn't need to widen it much. :> And maybe the nick is a biiit to thick? I dunno the character that well, so I don't know her build that well.
The hand is exellent, and the wrapping of the snake with Mercedes' kissy kissy face is great! This is an awesome picture. :>

A CRITIQUE IS A CRITIQUE. Just expect me to ask questions...

I'm actually surprised to hear that. I'm not sure if it's just how I shade or if it's my old tablet's pressure settings, but I'm often frustrated I can't shade my pieces evenly when I shade this way.

I can totally see where I should have fixed the shoulders, but what kind of details do you mean for the snake?

I'll admit, I have issues with making good sexy/voluptuous characters and Mercedes is my guinea pig when it comes down to me practicing it. I actually thought the neck to be okay here, but could I possibly bug you for a quick redline sketch so I know what would be the correct proportionate size?

Either way, I like it. C:

Oh sorry. That was vague. D: I mean add a little tiiiny bit more realism. It's like; "Oh snap, I see pretty lady with a good sense of how a human looks and--oh, hello snake?" It's a bit different in style from the rest of the image. Unless there's a specific type of snake like that (With ze boxy nose) I get a vibe that you didn't spend a lot of time thinking about the snake. (And maybe you didn't; I know I slap on things all the time!) Snakes have a more rounded, organic nose. ([link] , [link] ) But you don't need a whole lot of smoothing out there, just a little more definition in lines. I really do like the idea of the snake though. And the scale detail is nice. C:

I'm actually unsure as to why I think the neck is a little too thick. One second I look at it and it looks fine, then maybe I look to hard, or maybe the other way around. I can try and red line it for you. :>

I really wish I could find the pic of the snake that inspired the nose shape of this one, but I can't. :c This is the closest I could find in similarity, but I can see where I probably made it far too boxy in the nose, though.

I can see where I fumbled on the sternomastoid now (waaay to far back) now that you've given me a redline. Thank you soooo much.

Though... now I'm actually confused as to how I should have actually done the shoulders. You said the elbows do meet the the rib cage, but I'm still unsure if the placement of her shoulders are right. Halp plz? :<

Oh yes! I love those snakes.

You're welcome. I know it's kind of all over the place/sporadic crazy.

Darn it self. The ribcage thing was just a random fact that I've figured out. It has nothing to do with the placement of shoulders. The thing with the shoulders was, I think, they were a bit thick. They seemed to be the right length, they just needed to be a bit less, manly?
Or it might just be that I draw things pretty slimingly. :U
I'm sorry I'm so vague about dem shoulders. D:

Dude, any redline is amazing. Feedback like this is GOLD.

I think it was a great tidbit! Certainly something I'll keep in mind now!! Thanks!

Naw, I can see that. When I get the time I'll play around with it again. I might be bugging you about it again later with a bunch of "THIS LOOK GOOD?"s though.

She's gorgemous. I just realized one of the things that I really like about your coloring is that it isn't too high contrast. I'm not saying it's flat at all; there's a wonderful sense of depth in fact. One of my problems has always been to go to the extremes of the value spectrum, so I can really appreciate your more nuanced contrast.

Thank you!! I'm really flattered to hear that!!

I used to do a lot of high contrast stuff when I started out, but over time I realized how I used WAAAAAAY too much black. Other than lines, I never actually use outright black anymore.
