Thank you very much.
I've just finished watching the Living and the Dead series and Colin looks amazing in it, and there were a number of things that seemed quite inspiring. I might very well do at least one painting based on it, possibly more. The lighting in the show, with the candles and oil lamps was particularly nice. (Though that family would go through a fortune in candles with the amount they have lit in every room!)

Yeah, so sad it finished. I'm finding it very hard to find anything to replace it.

Nothing can replace Merlin. I hated how it finished I thought they could do better of what they did

Thank you, though this is just a direct copy of a photo, (I was just using it to practise painting reflected light effects etc.) So the pose isn't down to me, it was there already.

I love the lighting in this one; from the tent, and in his hair from the direct sunlight. Lovely, as always! <3

Thank you.
The likeness was a bugger on this one, it didn't look like him through most of the painting, (I think I had his mouth too narrow), then at the end I widened the mouth and it worked a bit better.

It's the little things that make such a big difference isn't it? I think you managed quite well in the end, and did a lovely job of catching that kind of not-quite-wistful look he has as well.

It so is. One little difference can throw the whole thing out, or pull it together.

It can! The trick is knowing *which* little detail is the one causing the problem. And then there's always the thing of actually knowing how to fix that.... lol.

Ay, there's the rub, (As Hamlet said. )
Actually...thinking of Hamlet, that would be a very nice group project for Drawmelot, "Draw any Merlin character you like as a character from Shakespeare".
You could have Morgana as Lady Macbeth, Merlin as Ariel, Athur as Hamlet holding the skull, Merlin and Arthur as Romeo and Juliet, Arthur as Bottom with donkey ears and Merlin as a male Titania, Arthur and Merlin as Katherine and Petruchio, Arthur as a white Othello with Merlin as a male Desdemona, (or Gwen as Desdemona and evil-Merlin as Iago)...

I've got so many ideas for paintings at the moment :g: Unfortunately I don't seem to be actually DOING any of them, I've rather got caught up in spring cleaning instead.

Thank you so much, I had a lot of problems trying to get the lighting, so I'm glad you think it works. To me it's not quite there, but it's really nice that it seems to work to other people.

Thank you. I'm a lot older than you though, so a LOT more years of practice behind me. I had a look at your gallery and I think you're doing great, your pencil work is really thoughtful and your likenesses are really good.

Thank you so much, not many people would take the time to look through my gallery. I really appreciate your comments. I guess practise is what art is all about, you can never be good enough ad there are always things to learn. I should try painting some time, I'd love to be able to achieve something like your level of depth and accuracy some day.

Oh, It was a pleasure to look through your gallery you've got some lovely stuff in there.
I've just put a picture on blue paper ("Back Cover for the Web"), into my scraps section, (as I said I'd show it to someone). It was a picture I did when I was first starting out in fandom, and when I drew it I was older than you are now. But it's not a patch on some of your stuff, like your drawing of Leon, or your drawing of Arthur and Merlin next to each other. If you are that good now, then you are going to be so much better than me as time goes on.
And yes, totally have a go at painting if you feel like it. It's quite difficult to get the hang of at the beginning so you'll end up with quite a few muddy paintings to start with. But the earlier you start, the better really, as it gives you so much more time to get good at it.

Again, thank you. It's nice to go back and look at your old work sometimes I think and see how much you've grown. I like the composition of your 'Back Cover for the Web' even if it isn't as incredible as some of your more recent work it's still pretty good!
Maybe I'll dig out some paints and give it a shot at some point over my Easter break. It certainly wouldn't do me any harm. If I do get round to it I'd gladly accept some constructive criticism if you have the time. I'll probably stalk your gallery for some tips!

Thanks,
And sure, I'm no expert by any means, but any painting questions I can help with, then just ask and I'll do my best to help.

I know this shot so well from the promo pictures and this has captured it beautifully!! Merlins expression is spot on, he has emotion in his eyes and I think the light works wonderfully I love the highlights on his face and hair. Brilliant brilliant work!!
