really cool stuff and i love praying mantis'. but whatd you use for the background? seems like black or something would have been better its almost the same color as the subject.

I use card stock as backgrounds,store bought scrapping paper backgrounds really. This is yellow,I use it alot on Zomie because the camera has a hard time making true black with the black backgrounds,so thats much more editing I have to go in and do. I do use black a lot and like it but trying to get more pop in colors which you can't get with dark colors.

try using a piece of black velvet.. The velvet absorbs a lot of light.

I'm afraid you'd see the texture of the fabric though,but I will have to try that

I use a lot of that fabric and it work very well.You don't see the texture.As Newlmage said,it absorbe the light.So the subject appear more colorfull and bright.

If the background is far enough,you won't see any texture.

RIght now I don't have much space so putting things farther back is rarely an option,but as soon as I change rooms I will try with more fabrics
