Description This is Zomie my L6 ID mantis, finally got some decent shots of her on Rock Candy. Stacked 2 pics, just to get the front leg and candy more sharp but other than that and basic lighting no editing on this yet, since I am still far behind

really cool stuff and i love praying mantis'. but whatd you use for the background? seems like black or something would have been better its almost the same color as the subject.

OctoberRainne In reply to KingStephenArthur [2012-05-22 20:23:20 +0000 UTC]

I use card stock as backgrounds, store bought scrapping paper backgrounds really. This is yellow,I use it alot on Zomie because the camera has a hard time making true black with the black backgrounds,so thats much more editing I have to go in and do. I do use black a lot and like it but trying to get more pop in colors which you can't get with dark colors.

try using a piece of black velvet.. The velvet absorbs a lot of light.

I'm afraid you'd see the texture of the fabric though, but I will have to try that

thecapricorn In reply to OctoberRainne [2012-07-13 01:14:33 +0000 UTC]

I use a lot of that fabric and it work very well. You don't see the texture. As Newlmage said,it absorbe the light. So the subject appear more colorfull and bright.

OctoberRainne In reply to thecapricorn [2012-07-27 18:29:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah thinking of trying that for macro just afraid the texture will show up on camera :\

thecapricorn In reply to OctoberRainne [2012-08-29 01:38:48 +0000 UTC]

If the background is far enough, you won't see any texture.

OctoberRainne In reply to thecapricorn [2012-08-29 02:02:24 +0000 UTC]

RIght now I don't have much space so putting things farther back is rarely an option, but as soon as I change rooms I will try with more fabrics
