Hey. First, let me start off with the bad, and we can move right onto the good from there. I'm going to be blunt and extremely honest. You learn nothing from huggly cute critiques, so I don't believe in holding back with them.
First, your linework is iffy at best. Its shaky, there's no quality to any of it (meaning thinness to thickness at different points in the lines). Steady your hand and practice more.
You have a rudimentary, basic grasp of anatomy, and you have a helluva long way to go. Look at photo references, see about attending a life-drawing class to see how humanoid bodies actually function and move. I would even recommend looking at some anatomical medical textbooks. You can go a long way with looking at how different muscle groups grow and shrink with different movements.
Those hooves are ridiculous, too. Are they bent slightly?
I've always thought of tauren having something like deer or goat hooves.

If you're going to use coloured lineart, colour it respective to the colour underneath it. Light brown on dark red looks okay (read: okay, not good) until you get to a shadowy part of it, then it looks terrible. Use black or red for the lines on top of the fur.
Your colours are garish and they clash something terrible. Work off of a set colour scheme or you can cheat and use an overlay on top of the picture and edit out the bits that look bad.
Your shading is timid and nervous- by that, I mean there isn't much of it and its all in places there are obviously going to be shadows in. The shadows are very light and almost not there at all.
To get dramatic, realistic lighting, you have to be daring. It helps to look at photos for this, as ones like such:

The lighting has a great range, and its an engaging photo.
I'm also not sure why you blurred the grass near the tauren-thing's leg. Its in the foreground, it shouldn't be blurry at all. I'm also not going to condone using the grass brush there- its a lazy copout. But thats another issue for another day.
What the fuck is this supposed to be? A half tauren half blood elf? No. Doesn't work. Tauren and blood elves (hell, tauren and anything else in the game) are too physically different for there to be a half tauren anything. But lets ignore for a moment that this pairing is genetically impossible.
This abomination of a child would be, at most, 5 years old. Tauren become mature at 30. Your unholy hooved belfspawn is still a toddler.
Why the shit does a 5 year old tauren have glowing blue eyes? Are they a death knight? Impossible. Are they a highborn? Also impossible.
I'm all for gratuitous artistic license but this is ridiculous.
And now for the good.
The two characters seem very at ease, and I know how difficult it is to make poses look fluid and casual like this. Its also difficult to get two people posed together without looking like two seperate pictures in the same frame, so also, with this, you did a really good job.
You've got some real potential. Keep drawing, keep practicing and viewing the world around you in an artistic sense. There is -always- room for improvement.

Is his father still in the picture.

He is not, in fact. He died at Camp Turajo around the time of the Cataclysm. His mother then went hunting Alliance, and left him with her best friend, who is a troll.
In retrospect, they are a very good representation of the entire Horde.

The tauren/elf is creepy. I think it's the eyes and the piercings. But he certainly looks how I would expect a half tauren half elf to look like.

There's really no point in copyrighting your characters. No one with a half-decent reputation would steal them.

In general, Native American names, when they're written in Latin characters, are spelled phonetically. (Since the language isn't native to the alphabet, the names are written as the sounds in English would be spelled.)
So yes: hah-loo-kay.
