This is a remake. Since the old one has been irking me, and people keep FAVORITING THAT ONE D:< , I decided to remake it on Sai :l.
I don't like how I colored it. I like the shading and such, but the entire thing itself is just bothering me at the moment. >_<
I was lazy on cleaning up the colors on Firepaw's fur, too. o___e

I tried working more on Firepaw and Spottedleaf rather than the background. I agree, the other version is much more detailed. But I hated the old one, and I just wanted a new one so people would stop favoriting that one, and ffffff- I don't know. D:

Maybe you could work the rain out a bit, here on deviantart are good tutorials for that ^^ here they looks so.. "stroky" if you know what i mean.
Or and did you this with mouse or Tablet?
maybe you could check before you save your drawing if some color stand out of the lineart, it looks better when everything is clean and so on c: but anyways its a nive drawing!

I prefer to make my own styles of weather/shadowing and such. I prefer not to rely on tutorials, because they just teach you to copy the maker's style of whatever they made a tutorial of. >w>
Yes, I did this with a tablet. I got Paint Tool Sai right after I got my tablet, because the demos that came with the tablet sucked. xD
I honestly just got a bit lazy with cleaning up. I always do, because I hurry towards the end of the finishing touches before I "lose interest". I'm planning to remake this picture every year, to show my improvement. ((You should've seen my '09 version... ugh. <___>))

lol they don't don't they just show you a way to imrpove your art, you shouldn't change your style cause of that but here ITS just wrong and not(ihmo) nice looking.
And you can't copy styles, the most of the tutorials here show you how to make RAIN, not style, RAIN. how it actually looks and how its esay to make

sorry for being "harsh" but its true.
+ if you're scared to "lose" your style, then out your style into this Tutorial, get the hint and try to work it out - its not easy to find what your own style is, but if you prefer to stuck on "your style" your whole life you don't get that better.. every artist, even the "epic ones" changed "their style" for getting better.
And try out a tutoiral or take a reference won't delete your style immediately o.o they just help you. When its "too diffrent" then it was just ONE picture, not your whole art lol XD;
Well then i think it could be better... i mean if you want to show your improvement you should put effort into it, and when you say you are to lazy to erase some part of the coloring it seems like you don't want to put effort into it...
Lose interest? how long did you spent on this picture? i mean i would never lose interest how it would look like when i finish up everything, nice and clean..
Personally i think, the picture of last year, it looks more cleaner then from this year, maybe its because you haven't sai for so long now.. but well.. yeah like i said.

I know that. But I only want to improve my art by myself. It's not fun for me to rely on others for improvement on something I love doing.
Yes, you can copy styles. People do it everyday. Even backgrounds. xD I've seen so many people copying 's style of backgrounds it's not even funny. >w<
I try not to be lazy, but I can't keep focus on anything for too long, otherwise I get frustrated and begin to hate it. I have Anxiety, ADD, ADHD, and possibly IED. If I try to focus too much on a piece of artwork, I'll simply throw my monitor out a window. Dx
...... I don't want people seeing my artwork of animals for '09. Waaaaay to embarrassing. Trust me, my cats looked like mentally ill puppies, and All I could decently do was sideshots. >~~~~<;;;

But its sooo damn immature to "bawww you stolen my style!" - what is style? just cause you doing eyes like that, no one else is allowed to draw them like this? oh c'mon
there will be ALWAYS similarities your style will never be so that no one else could have a style like that an stuff.
why don't you want to see them? why its embarrassing? it only shows how damn much you improved since them, the bader you we're back then the more amazing and great is you showing of improvement.
Personally i think its embarrassing when you improved not at all in this time and everything stayed the same, even if you were already "good".

I never mean to steal styles. Similarities are common among artwork. :l
It's not the point of "You stole my style!". The point of stealing styles is to meaningly copy other's artwork. Sure, a lot of styles are alike, most of the time it's coincidence. In some shows, the eyes are alike, or the noses. But there are people out there who just copy other's ideas and styles because they are either too lazy to create their own, or don't think they're good enough to create their own, so they copy others.
It's embarrassing because in my eyes, it's beyond bad. People still think that my '09 work is beautiful, but no matter who else likes it, it makes no difference. If I can't stand my own old artwork. It's my artwork, and I can shwo it to whoever I want. And I don't want to show anyone my artwork before the year 2010. >_<

I think I captured Firepaw's expression on this one then the last one. On the last one, Firepaw's face was a bit covered and down, so you couldn't really tell if he was just taking a moment of silence, or if he was just really sad. >w>
