Many thanks, Oriole. I've been practising with my new camera for the forthcoming trip to South Africa - starting a week tomorrow. Capturing birds in flight is the aim, but so far this is the best I've managed.

Cheers

David

I'm hoping for some flamingoes and pelicans in the wetlands, Oriole, and I shall see what else I can capture.

Many Thanks

David

I thought it OK, but this new camera and its AF system is difficult to master.

Many Thanks

Wonderful in flight capture! I just love the wing detail, and the movement.

Agreed about the wings, Linda. I had had no idea about the way feathers overlapped as shown here, nor about the translucence through them. This is what pro photographers call a BIF - a bird in flight - possibly the hardest of all action shots.

Thank You

David

I've seen quite a few terrific BIF's on DA, this one being amongst them! I'd say you have a knack for these kinds of captures, David.

More practice needed, I think Linda - the Canon AF system has so many options that knowing what is best for any situation is difficult.

Many Thanks

This is one is the best, at least my favorite one of the series, David. The fact there is no roof, nothing but the gull and the sky itself puts a nice emphasis on this portrait. Once again, Jonathan Livingston might have been your model here
Your AF tracking system seems to work perfectly fine

Agreed, Elisabeth. I thought this the best of the set. It is cropped to give the precise position in space, but the sky was clear anyway. As to the AF system, the point of focus is the left hand leg, but the system did get there in an incredibly short time as I swung the camera around. With the Canon 5d Mark II there would have been no chance of capturing this.

Cheers

David
