Spot on with the shutter David, not too much, nor too little!

Yes, indeed, Michael - the exact speed is crucial, but for me is trial and error at the time.

Cheers

I love the effect produced by the exposure you chose here David: we get an effect that has the ocean motion feeling to it as well as the "still" effect produced by longer exposure of water. This image that expresses these very two aspects of the sea at the same time is the first photograph I see that creates that subtle yet... very eerie effect David.

(Should you copyright all these findings and experiments of yours millionaire would become your other middle name David )

How do you know "millionaire" is not another of my middle names, Elisabeth? Thank you for the kind words, and I agree that this particular shot captures the sea both as moving swiftly to give crashing waves, and having an underlying more fundamental motion. I regret that I am not the first to capture such! Enkased is a magic photographer for this type of work. What is tricky here is getting an exposure time that just fits the bill - 1.5 seconds here. I took shots at 0.5 through to 8 seconds for this, but did not know till I got these back to the computer which would be "best".

Many thanks, again.

A lot of life and movement; yet I immediately thought of ice, in contrast to theΒ movement. Interesting work.

Good comment about ice, Linda. You do perceive things differently from others - reflected in your own work. The ghosts to which you refer in other shots I thought of myself - I tried to take some ghost people shot, but not very successfully. But, Children of the Damned and ice - no, I had not thought of those. However, the ice idea is now planted in the brain for further development.

Many Thanks

And here's me, David,Β thinking it was all planned by you to be seen as such. Well, I'm proud to have been of some sort of service.

Planned as swirls of "white", yes, but as ice, no. However, the ice idea is a good one.

Many Thanks, Linda.

It always best guess with them, I usually try a few settings and then you have more chances to get it.

Indeed - the one difficulty is that I cannot see the screen output on the camera very well during a photo shoot. But, I agree - several exposure times need to be used. I got a good effect in #4 of this series, but a full screen view is needed.

Hum...full screen how? Β Do you mean large format?

Okavanga In reply to Scooby777 [2014-08-01 08:03:34 +0000 UTC]

In this case, I meant that I need a large screen in order to see the detail of an image, Sheri. In the field, it is difficult for me to see that even on enlargement. Sometimes, I take a laptop with me and connect that up, but not in this case.

Cheers
