Many thanks, Steve. This is actually the same fellow as in the Mating Game photos - taken before the "encounter".
Cheers

not sure if you know why they are called "white", not because of their colour but after the dutch word wijd ( meaning widen mouthed ) the white rhinos are grazers and the black guys are browsersΒ

Probably sounds better than "wide-mouth" and "not wide-mouth", Mike.

Of course...beware of parents, or more exactly be aware of where they are at all times.

Is it white, or dried mud?...the ears look quite a bit darker.

Most rhinos are middle grey in skin colour, Linda, but there are variations. Lighter patches will be dried mud - these guys like to roll on the ground, and mud helps get rid of insects like ticks. Like hippos, rhinos enjoy a wallow, but they do not normally stay in water. As to the ears, I guess there is a contribution by lack of light to the darkness, and some extra pigmentation. Some rhinos have cropped ears, and I wish I had asked the ranger about that - probably done by rangers as a form of identification, as well as to keep infections down.
Cheers
David
