Description The conclusion! Or is it? Please keep reading.

Thanks to everybody who took the time to view this comic all the way through. I hope my simple story and art gave you some satisfaction. Yes, I realize Klunk the cat was never a part of the Fred Wolf cartoon's universe, but I thought it would be a nice amalgamation to mix in from across the TMNT multiverse. And some of those cats that appeared in "The Cat Woman from Channel Six" episode looked awfully similar to Klunk's design in the 4Kids cartoon, didn't they?

For those of you who might have been hoping for a more "epic" conclusion, I offer my apologies and an explanation. Being only a 12-page comic, I wanted to have a "happy ending" resolution in keeping with the tone of the original cartoon and to give myself a feeling of satisfaction in case I never got around to doing another issue. The final page isn't terribly original, but I think it is a logical resolution and it satisfies me in terms of character development.

Thanks again!

And you can now see the Alternate Ending if you're hungry for more!

Ha! I'm really grateful whenever anyone takes the time to read my "Nothing to Fear" comic, as it's pretty much my masterpiece at present and really pushed me to improve myself as an artist over almost a year's time.

Glad you like the official ending (there is a 13th page that is currently "unofficial" until I get around to doing a sequel comic). I hate the cliche of the "it was all a dream" ending, but for this piece it was really the only logical way to resolve the loose ends with a happy ending in 12 pages. Though my major plot twist wasn't very original, I at least wanted the comic to have some thematic merit, which is symbolized here in the rat (who cameoed on a few story pages) eating peaceably with the cat (Klunk); two natural predators living in harmony and peace. That's my own application of the Isaiah 65:25 verse cited in the bottom right corner. And, in many ways, it's my own take on giving Splinter some more character development beyond how we saw him act in the classic episode "The Cat Woman from Channel Six" where he had a paralyzing fear of cats that was never revisited in the show.

i think the ending is perfect! having a down-to-earth, low-key type ending is the way to go and fits with the Turtles' usual feel, at least in my mind. i think a lot of people try to epic-up the Turtles so this type of thing is appreciated!

I'm so glad you think so!

I know exactly what you mean about how people (fans or otherwise) often try to focus on the dark and epic themes of the TMNT in their stories.

When I conceived this story, I tried to imagine myself as a guest writer on the classic cartoon. My goal was to work the the elements already present in the continuity, throw in some in-jokes that TMNT fans in 2012 would understand, and eventually wrap the story up in a way that leaves this TMNT universe more-or-less like I found it. I didn't want to try and introduce original characters or make any big chances to the status quo, but (going back again to the "guest writer" philosophy) assume that future writers could continue to work within the same established cartoon universe that I did.

yeah. there seems to be a desire for the Turtles to be "badass" or something, which is fine i guess, but it tends to seem forced to me rather than the more natural approach in the original Mirage comics. in those, even when it was dark and gritty it always felt natural and organic and not some fist-bump of BOOYEAH badassness or whatever.

i think you did a great job on your comic in terms of sticking to the established continuity in the show! this totally feels like it would fit.

I really liked drawing and coloring this page. Up until the very end, I wasn't sure if I wanted to reveal the final twist (or at least the "penultimate twist" if you count the Alternate Ending) on my "The End" page or else get it out of the way on the previous page so I could turn my attention to the final scene with everybody living together in harmony.

Eventually, I compromised by putting the two panels on top of the last page and devoting the rest of the space to the big "happy ending" spread. I guess it worked out alright.

I'm glad that just about everyone who has read my comic appreciates the humor and fun which I tried to interject into an otherwise fear/thrill based story. When I started this project, I had the words of Isaiah 65:25 on my mind and wanted to do a TMNT story that got progressively bleaker but ended on a calm note of redemption:
"The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent's food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain, says the LORD."
The cat & and the rat may not exactly be a wolf and a lamb, but I think the parallel still works.

The Japanese symbols that appear throughout this comic also have some significance that nobody has yet grasped (or at least they haven't told me if they did).

This is a nice page - just sets up that relaxed ' final page' feel - and the cat and mouse are nicely done.

This is certainly my preferred ending of the two I drew up. It certainly ends on an optimistic note of redemption for all characters involved.
