Nathaniel and a stuffed cat.Young Nathaniel. Think of the cat as something stuffed which is what artists in the olden days used to fill up a picture. Nat is posing for a portrait in this image, his parents, trying to be nobles and knowing that they have portraits done of their family members, had Nat sit for one as well.
So yeah... tried to make that here.

Dang, this is so pretty. <3 I love how you did his hair, the eyes, and the folds and creases in the clothing look natural. (: (Cat plush's eyes are starting to creep me out a bit. So vacant yet WIIIDE.
