The sepia is perfect for this. I don't think it would be as good in black and white or color. The gnarled look it has, the twisting shapes, are a really strong image.

I really like the upper half of this photograph. It's really crisp and well-focused, and the out-of-focus dead leaves are dream-like. The colouration works fine because the colour is probably close the the withered leaves' original colour, if not entirely identical. The autumn-like feel is striking.
The composition looks somewhat random, but it works well in the upper half. I don't like the lower half that much though, since most of it is unfocused, and the things is focus are undistinguishable and kind of messy, so they don't really do the upper half justice. When speaking of the upper half, I mean the upper half of the photo plus a little more, since the middle works well too.
So if I cover the bottom of your photo with a piece of paper or my screen's borders, it's a truly amazing photograph.

I love the focus,
the color,
and the thoughts it produced in my head. Lovely photograph, at least. Were I to have the money, I would buy a print of this right away.

As with your other shot, the dead colors in this picture is great. But i like your other shot better as the branches look more like dead bones. But this one is great nonetheless!
