Description yet another shot taken in Riga. I'm very fond of their wooden houses, they're all different and yet they share something... something warm and cheerful
way better than those gray brick stoned houses imo

The arc of red of the leaves really holds the eye. It tries to wander over to the terra cotta tone of the molding, but that red...it just pulls it right back.

nice shot! the red plant stands out nicely against the wooden walls without being too start a contrast. and the wooden boards frames the whole image quite naturally as well.

Nice to see you submitting again opcd. Great piece of work here, I love the clarity of the shot, you really feel like you could just reach out and touch the surface of that old decaying wood. I also enjoy the way that flower seems so defiant of that very same decay, as if to mark a last tinge of cleanliness in a world rampant with rot and neglect.

figures.
my comment didn't get posted earlier.
anyway,...
just letting you know how much i've enjoyed
your recent photography.
this is just another excellant example of it.
i like the off center crop,...i guess it seems
off center due to the position of the doorway,...
so maybe unbalanced is a better word,...*shrug*.
the textures, specifically the peeling and chipped
paint are pretty cool. even what appears to be
a bit of spray painting left behind by a tagger(?)
and i like the fact that for the
most part your crop includes one family color,...browns,...
except for the dash a red given it by the red leaves
of the vine. a nice accent among the monotony.
continued nice work.

me also loves the weird balance between nature, old-fashioned, and urbanization (the graffiti).

The romantic colors on the wall, the old chipped out paint job that gives the age to this place, with the faded tagging marks of teenagers graffiti style of writing, this place holds what has forgotten. The intriguing reach for the door, of live, red leaves on slim branch moving and attaching itself for the better view of the ground. The colors are natural and easy on the eyes, to wonder more on the red spice. I like the shot here, nice work.

i LOVE those red leaves..
but i think the whole red tone is too much for me, i don't really like red for some reason
but this photo is kinda like 'the rose amongst the thorns'
if you know what i mean.

great textures and composition, the shot just oozes warmth. would have been nicer if it was more straight though. (not like its terribly crooked or anything, but i think it should either be straight or crooked, not a bit of both )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

opcd In reply to xshock [2003-12-19 18:59:46 +0000 UTC]

i think it's perfectly straight (take a look at the left side and follow the vertical line)
and these wooden houses aren't very straight so it's kinda hard to take a straight picture of something that's not. That's partly why i like these houses
