Description This is a costume rendering for one of my versions of the Red Death from Phantom. This look is inspired by the extremely long, vented frock coats of the 17th century. The fabrics, of course, are brocades and red velvet with black lace, gold braid appliques and a silk cape.

I was so excited about this design that I started cutting tonight. Soon there will be a frock coat! It feels good to be making costumes for ones' self again.

Oooooo.... I can't believe I've never seen this before!!! That would be a wicked Red Death costume to match up with my crimson red silk Robe a la Francaise! I adore the attire of the late 17th and all through the 18th c.

The final costume ended up having an embroidered bandolier sash across the front with a large brass buckle flanked by gilded skeletons.

I will! I hope to design for the Met or Broadway one day. I really know nothing about it, but I've always loved to learn about costumes. I hope to be involved with a Phantom project one day, perhaps a faithful Leroux adaptation!

It frays too much for my liking, but I have alot of it in stock and it looks really nice when finished.

awesome! did you make measured templates for the different parts of the costume yet? looks very complicated :/ i hope i can eventually have that level of skill to make something like that

I made the pattern and started cutting fabric last night. Right now just the velvet body is together. Tonight I will add the brocade and sleeves.
Tomorrow, the lining.
