i see your plushies and i think of the chibis in getbackers (very cute).
there's a free program called paint.net, it has layers and other goodies and it works with windows. it's much better than mspaint.

I'll have to give paint.net a try, thank you! Is it sort of like photoshop? I tried that once and was completely befuddled. (I also had zero explanation on how it worked which is likely why it confused my brains hahaha)

it's simpler than photoshop without a lot of the fancy gizmos (got ps myself) and it reminded me of mspaint more than ps. found some tutorials for paint.net to help ya out.
