Description Yesterday, I put a poll asking which top 10 list you guys would be interested in me seeing, and by a wide majority, the Top 10 Cartoon Network characters seemed to top it off.  Thus, that's what I'm sticking with...

Ah yes, Cartoon Network.  Nickelodeon may have been my favorite channel for cartoons, but Cartoon Network DEFINITELY had quality programming, even in its bad eras.  The 90s were pretty good to its original cartoons, the 2000s had some quality shows until the end of the decade, and 2010s was considered a great revival.  Needless to say, I grew up with Cartoon Network a lot, from its days when it became known as a network that showed Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Hanna-Barbera and such.  I still miss those old days, but I appreciate the new cartoons that came in, and I still watch a few Cartoon Network shows to this day, along with new Nicktoons and new Disney toons.  So, I'm going to count down my favorite Cartoon Network characters, but before I do that, some ground rules.

This is mainly going to be for ORIGINAL shows that aired on the Cartoon Network.  Nothing owned by DC, and none of the Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera or MGM/Tom and Jerry library, otherwise, characters like Daffy and Droopy would definitely be on the list.

Second rule, only one character per franchise.  I love all the characters in each individual show, but if I did any more than that, we wouldn't have much variety in the list.

That being said, let's get started, starting from bottom right and working our way to top left.

10. FRANKIE FOSTER (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends)

Ah yes, who didn't love Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?  It was quite a fun show, showing off a lot of the adventures and antics Bloo, Mac and his friends get into all while staying in a foster home that roomed imaginary friends.  It was a silly show, but a fun one.  And one of my favorite characters in that show isn't even one of the imaginary friends, like Wilt or Eduardo, but rather, the caretaker of the house and granddaughter of the owner of the house herself, Francis 'Frankie' Foster... or just Frankie, as she prefers to be called.  She's sort of the overworked person of the house that can be nice, but can be easily ticked off if you so much as crossed her.  Not to say she doesn't like her job, on the contrary, she does enjoy helping out the friends and if willing, she can give them some encouragement and support.  I can relate to her in that sometimes, I can get a bit overworked, but find the job worth it in the end.  The reason she's low on this list is because, well, there were other characters that I liked a lot more than her, and while I adore Frankie, she just found herself barely making the Top 10.

9. VAMBRE WARRIOR (Mighty Magiswords)

I'm just recently watching this, and from what I'm seeing... while a little fast-paced, it is a very fun ride, in which two polite, yet exciteable characters go on small adventures for hire and try out various new swords with different abilities called 'Magiswords' that they use in every adventure they go on.  I like both siblings and how well they work together, but my favorite of the siblings is definitely Vambre, hands down.  Mainly because while she does speak in a refined voice and has fine exquisite tastes, she does have certain quirks that actually are endearing, like her no-pants running gag, the fact that she can be just as wacky and crazy like her brother, and her irrational fear of squirrels.  Mighty Magiswords is definitely a small show I just HAVE to watch a little more of, but yeah, from what I've seen of it, I definitely enjoyed the moments.

8. DARWIN WATTERSON (The Amazing World of Gumball)

What is there to say about the Amazing World of Gumball?  It's actually a very fun show, and, admittingly, while it does air a LOT of reruns on Cartoon Network (at the time of this writing, anyway), this is actually a show I don't mind rewatching, mainly because the characters, the setting and the lore of the world is just... in a way, very endearing to me.  Maybe it's because I love a combination of slice-of-life and surreal humor, but Gumball really handled a lot of the best moments, and great jokes of the show.  My favorite character from that series is, without a doubt, Darwin Watterson, the adopted brother of the Watterson family, due to being a fish with legs (which, one episode does delve into how he got those legs, which is heartwarming and funny at the same time).  Darwin is mostly depicted as the voice of reason, and a good brother and friend of Gumball.  He's well-meaning and nice, but isn't too afraid to dive in deep into the trouble that Gumball or one of his friends would usually get into.  All in all, The Amazing World of Gumball is an amazing show that I think you should all check out, if you haven't done so already.  It's quotable, it's funny, and I think in a few years from now, despite some outdated technology, it might be timeless.

7. AMETHYST (Steven Universe)

Amethyst, without a doubt, is my spirit Gem.  We both like to be lazy and eat, but we're not afraid to back down and help out when things get down.  Steven Universe is just one of those shows that can be up and down with a lot of people, but I personally enjoyed the show.  And with a character like Amethyst, she's definitely the best Crystal Gem that you can easily hang out with.  And Amethyst's arc of how she was born on Earth in the Kindergarten and her evolution as a character is just plain amazing, feeling that she didn't exactly belong to eventually growing up to be quite a courageous mentor for Steven.  Amethyst is the best Crystal Gem, hands down.

6. GRIM (The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy)

I freaking LOVE The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.  Yeah, it's a bit of a dark show, but it can also be a wacky one at times, and the concept of the Grim Reaper being forced to be best friends with two kids after he lost a limbo contest is just a genius idea for a show.  Of course, I always did like Grim, not only because of the Jamaican accent, but also because despite his job as the Grim Reaper, he also has his own side to him that can be serious, but dangerous.  Don't get me wrong, Billy and Mandy are just as important, but Grim really put the show together, and exploring the Underworld and Endsville, it was just so great.  I always felt bad for Grim whenever things didn't go the way he wants, like there's an episode where Grim gets confused and insane when he sees that his Mandy had broken the nice Mandy from an opposite world and got her to become more like her.  Still, whether you like the show or not, you can't deny that Grim was definitely the best character on the show, even if he is supposed to be the personification of death.

5. ENID METTLE (OK K.O.!: Let's Be Heroes!)

OK K.O.! was one of those shows where it told an amazing story, and at the same time, provided fans with a lot of fan service in at least one or two episodes.  In a way, it was a big love letter to Cartoon Network and all cartoons in general.  Yeah, it did start out as a typical 'kid works with two real heroes and boss in a convenience store and fights against a bad guy wanting to destroy store' in every single episode, but as the series goes on, you start gathering more pieces that there's a bigger story going on, like there's this dark person who looks like K.O. living in K.O., the kid's mother and his boss have a bit of an up and down love thing going on, and even the villain is shown to be upstaged by bigger things that are going on.  Still, it was quite an experience and a great show, and of course, my favorite character from the show is definitely Enid.  Despite her skills in battle, she's shown to be lazy behind the register and prefers to have fun.  To be fair, Radicles had that character as well, but the boss doesn't seem to know or care that these antics are going on.  However, as the series goes on, we learn a little more about Enid on why she's aloof and she's a great character because of that.  In the end of the day, I still enjoy Enid, mostly because of her arc and how she gets along with her friends.  OK K.O.! definitely deserves to have another look.

4. COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG (Courage the Cowardly Dog)

I guess it probably is obvious I'd have Courage up there, as not only is his show ANOTHER dark show, but it also has good mystery and ambiance.  The show goes as follows, a pink dog got abandoned as a puppy as he was found by a nice old lady named Muriel as they live in the middle of a town called Nowhere, with her husband, Eustace Bagges (who is often referred to as The Farmer in some shows, but he's always Eustace to me).  But despite Courage having a nice home, and despite Eustace scaring him off with a mask he happens to have, a problem always arises, usually with a real monster behind that usually threatens Courage's home, with Muriel and Eustace being unaware.  Despite his cowardly nature (and the wacky screams and faces he does whenever he gets scared), Courage decides to brave everything he can to save his home and family, mainly because it's 'the things he does for love'.  Courage was definitely a character you don't mess with when it came to him being brave, and I personally can't wait for the crossover movie with Scooby-Doo!

3. LAZLO (Camp Lazlo)

I know what you guys are thinking, 'Why Lazlo?'.  Here's the thing.  When summer came around, this show was always the one I watched, mainly because I enjoyed the antics of Lazlo, Raj and Clam trying to mix things up at camp, with the other campers occasionally joining in the antics.  As much as I love Scoutmaster Lumpus, Slinkman and Edward, Lazlo is up there amongst my favorites mainly because he's an unusual camper that tries to mix things up by having fun, always being quite the optimistic monkey.  Plus, this being from the creator of Rocko's Modern Life helped with me enjoying the show.  I still enjoy the show whenever it came on TV, and when it gets to HBO Max, I will definitely watch this show again, but I can tell you right now, Camp Lazlo is definitely one of my favorite Cartoon Network shows, and I'm pretty sure it's in my Top 10 Favorite Cartoon Network shows.

2. CHOWDER (Chowder)

I get that some of you may not like the show due to the strange humor AND Chowder himself, but looking over this show, it actually WAS one of the best cartoons in the Dark Age of cartoons, alongside shows like Phineas and Ferb.  Yeah, Chowder was strange, but it had fun with itself, and it's probably one of the more meta shows I've ever seen, it's that enjoyable.  That aside, Chowder is one of those characters who always means well, but has a monstrous appetite that usually gets in the way.  But he can also be shy and insecure, and wants nothing more than to enjoy what he has... I can relate to Chowder, in a strange way.  Definitely my second favorite character, for sure.

And my number one favorite Cartoon Network character of all time is...

DEXTER (Dexter's Laboratory)

From one of the first OG Cartoon Network shows that aired in the 90s, we have Dexter, boy genius himself.  Why did I place him as number one?  Well, I respect Dexter's character in a way.  I grew up watching a lot of episodes from his show, and I can sort of relate to him, being smart and mostly keeping to himself, only coming out when he's needed.  Of course, I wasn't quite as smart as Dexter, but I kept my grades up pretty good.  Still, I adore Dexter not only for his character, but for the wild antics that go on within the show, like how he tries to survive his lab getting destroyed by his sister, Dee Dee, or whether he has to hang out with his parents while they do a mundane thing, and there were even the fun side cartoons that usually aired on Dexter's Laboratory, like the Justice Friends and Dial M for Monkey.  In a way, I grew up with Dexter, and looking back today, I still enjoy Dexter's Laboratory, not only for the humor, but how it made me grow up to a better person.  All in all, I'm glad to have grown up with Dexter's Laboratory, and I enjoy Dexter quite a lot, which is why he's my number one favorite Cartoon Network character!
