Description Just thought I'd try a cell shaded style. Who better than Sonic to try it on? Might do commissions in this style

First of all, what's 'cell shaded'?

Second: not bad, pretty decent but it could use some work.
For example, the back leg (which is the left leg in this case since it's farther away from the camera/viewer) is lower than the front leg. Usually, if the farther away something is, the smaller it looks, so you shouldn't draw the lefts the same size and if anything, the back leg should be higher than the right one. Also, Sonic's legs aren't usually that colse when he's grinding on rails, this drawing is pretty similar to how he does it in SA2 but there is more space between his legs. So I'd suggest using his pose from one of the other games (Heroes, Advance Trilogy, Rush, Unleashed, Gens...).
His back hand (left hand) looks a bit weird, and the front one's shading could use some touching up but otherwise it's pretty good.

3+1/2 out of 5

Thank you so much for the favs and the critique; I greatly appreciate it~!   You are correct, I did want to go for a 'Sonic Adventure 2' styled pose. I wanted to try utilizing fore-shortening to give the image a sense of depth. However, I was going mostly off of memory and how I envisioned the piece in my mind, so more research definitely would've helped me out. (Don'tcha hate it when a piece looks better in your mind than when it's actually made? lol) I admit that Anatomy and Lighting aren't some of my strong points; Usually with placement and angles. They're some things I want to improve upon and hopefully fix, so thank you for pointing out those flaws, and for the suggestion.

Also, To answer your question: Cell (or Cel) Shading is a shading technique used to mimic comic book or cartoon-like appearances, by using few or minimal colors instead of a fully-shaded gradient. (here's an example fav.me/d5nrcfq )

Okay, cool.
Yes that's maddening - looks better in your mind and then just... aaaaahhhh! so musty~
[not yours, I mean the real drawing in comparison to one's own imagination]
I wouldn't say Anatomy is one of my strong points - but it's not weak either, it varies but it's mostly the size proportions that I have trouble with, not actual shape.
Lighting's cool for me though, but I usually do cel shading. When I do gradients, I basically combine the two - in that the part where I'd do cel shading, I use a gradient; but I don't colour the entire area with a gradient - just the spot where the light actually hits/is absent.

Oh, okay cool. Thanks for explaining about cel shading, by the way.

No problem. It's nice to get insight from other artists when it comes to our work. Thanks for watching

looks funny, if sonic were more as squat, the anatomy would look a lot better
