Mr. Sombra is the elusive and mysterious owner of Umbrum Inc., a mining company up the north which may or may not have some shady business connections. Those who have met him would describe him as enigmatic and assertive, and also incredibly handsome. He has a very firm way of speaking, which makes it hard to get anything past him.

He's a Crystal Prep alumni, and is the school's number one sponsor. All the fancy shmancy stuff they get to do nowadays is entirely thanks to Mr. Sombra's generous donations. He believes in maintaining the school's spotless reputation, so when Sombra hears about them losing to Canterlot High, he's quite crossed...

Sombra has a concerning amount of unpaid interns. It's totally legal, though, he assures you.

At some point, a fragment of Equestria's Sombra (he blew up, there's bits of him everywhere) found its way through the mirror. Sombra's mining operations found it and, mistaking it for a rare gem they've never come across before, brought it to their boss for inspection. Mr. Sombra discovers the fragment's magical properties, and after spending some time with it, the fragment changes shape, becoming a small accessory not unlike the geodes Sunset and the girls wear.
