I love this photo for the usual reason, DOF, framing, quality etc.

But I also love the feeling you've caught, it seems different to what you describe of him. This man doesn't look like a talker, he looks troubled, as if he is remembering harsh memories from his past.

His facial expression makes this photo have about 100000 layers of menaing, its beautiful.

Foto-Concept [2008-06-17 16:16:03 +0000 UTC]

this is a great shot, i love the soft focus on his eyes and nose (intentional?) and the smooth transition between the subject and the cropped background. It's blurred so much that I cannot even guess what it is and that keeps the viewer in touch with the whole concept, i believe!

grats! wonderful shot!

16mm extension tube (this thing is great)

yeah! apparently! I want one! Are you attaching it to a 80mm???

Great posts with the ET.

thanks so much (:

yea i'm attaching it to an 80mm. there are plenty of other extension tubes available but i've found the 16mm is really nice for most portraiture.

it looks like you can get pretty close.. how close exactly? and that pic of your grandpa, shot at f/2.8?

osquibb In reply to sublimeone [2008-06-02 17:56:56 +0000 UTC]

you know i can't quite remember, i did shot pretty wide open though so either 2.8 or 3.2. and with this shot, i'd say i was almost as close as possible with the 16mm et
