I love this photo for the usual reason, DOF, framing, quality etc.
But I also love the feeling you've caught, it seems different to what you describe of him. This man doesn't look like a talker, he looks troubled, as if he is remembering harsh memories from his past.
His facial expression makes this photo have about 100000 layers of menaing, its beautiful.

this is a great shot, i love the soft focus on his eyes and nose (intentional?) and the smooth transition between the subject and the cropped background. It's blurred so much that I cannot even guess what it is and that keeps the viewer in touch with the whole concept, i believe!

yea i'm attaching it to an 80mm. there are plenty of other extension tubes available but i've found the 16mm is really nice for most portraiture.
