Description
Fourth place!
First actual piece of drawn art on here, and first real HARPG entry!
Jay and Sal are entering their first show! The fact that it's from home may be a good thing. Jay was happy to dress Sal up for the occasion but Robin only managed to talk Jay into a polo and breeches. The man does not like to dress up, okay?

Robin had been ecstatic to find out about the Home Grown Show being hosted by Ridge Runner Stables. Jay was a talented rider, but had never shown before and she'd only gotten him to agree to work for her by the skin of her teeth after she'd mentioned him showing the horses. This would be a great opportunity for him and Sal to go through the motions without the pressure and crowds.
"Oh, look at my handsome boys!" She cried, clutching her wine glass to her chest, beaming from behind the video camera as Jay and Sal approached the arena entrance. Jay rolled his eyes at her and continued in, mounting Sal as Robin pushed her graying red hair out of her face and got the camera turned on. Sal nearly vibrated with excited energy under Jay's seat and he took him on a couple laps of the arena to get him focused. The stallion wasn't used to being in the arena at this time of night. It was like a whole new world with the sunset outside the windows.
"Ok, it's recording, you can start when you reach A again!"
"Got it." Jay answered, squaring his shoulders as they reached A and turned down the middle of the arena. They saluted at X, and the show began. They'd settled on the FEI Intermediate B test and Jay was pleased as the large red stallion floated through it. His passages were floaty, he pulled under himself nicely in the piaffes. When they reached the flying changes across the diagonal, he made sure to let out his breath and relax, but kept a firm seat and hand, flying changes got Sal worked up and so many in a row could get him frazzled and rushy. A couple in the middle had a little too much "pop" to them as Sal's energy bubbled, but both Jay and Robin felt a flash of pride as the stallion relaxed a bit and returned to a nice, collected canter. Jay would have liked the whole line to be smooth, but for Sal that had been a huge improvement, so he couldn't be anything but happy.
As they cantered down the center line and Sal came to a smooth halt at X, Jay saluted and couldn't help but smile as Robin clapped on the side.
"Don't spill your wine." He chided as he gave Sal a long rein, patting his neck, and circled around to A again before slipping out of the arena. He didn't need to look to know Robin was flipping him off as she turned the camera off. She'd send the tape in to Ridge Runner tomorrow morning.
