Description Wendelringe refers to the Northern German variant of the Celtic neckring or torc. The back and forth twist is indicative of this sub-genre of Celtic artifact.
My horoscope says I'm currently ensconced in the liminal, the in between world.I find this a most auspicious and potent time to make a talismanic body adornment, especially in metal which tends to pick up (and hold) bits of my consciousness..Thusly I forged this neck ring this morning, without eating,so that the pull of that netherworld might indeed present. We shall see in time if this imprinting coalesces.
Forged stainless steel.

I've been stearing at this for at least 5mins... I have no idea what to say. The shine aganist the dull in such a intricate pattern is plan mesmerising. Absolutely beautiful work.

Linda,
That is exactly what I was drawn to originally when first I did forgings in stainless. The black area is colored naturally from the forging process,I polish only the high points which gives such an intriguing contrast.Sometimes restraint in the finishing work reads more clearly as "handwork",and the somewhat crude look and surface texture make it seem ancient...At least these are my subjective impressions.

I have to agree, The contrast of the worked and polished metal has a very 'Ancient modern' feel.. It's very thought provoking. I think that's what draws me to your work.

Kick Ass, dude.
Might actually be my favorite, so far.

My horoscope keeps telling me I died in child birth.

I'm continuing to explore this sub genre.I'm (hopefully) working up to eventually forging a "flanged torc",but I'm not sure it can be accomplished in such an intractable medium as stainless steel. It's been estimated that the ancient Celts took 40-60 hours to make one in bronze.
Just waking up with coffee, but I think I'll attempt a wendelringe in hexbar today.Stay tuned...

I think it worked. The shape and look of this one tugs at me in a most interesting way. I like the ones with spiral ends more, but there is a very interesting feel to this one.
