This image looks OK on my screen, but the color intensity, brightness and overall balance varies somewhat on the screens I have viewed this image on. Please keep that in mind when commenting! BACKGROUND: Digital painting created by me in Photoshop. Total time approx. 8 hours over 3 days.
COMPOSITION: "Event Horizon" rendered in Lightwave, image composition & FX composed with Photoshop by me; 115 layers.
MESHES: The "Event Horizon" by Russell Tawn. The ship's textures were not modified, all FX are Photoshop.

1. This is not really what happened in the movie, you realize that?
--- Yes, I do. It is my own interpretation and an image that I had in mind since I last watched the movie last year.
2. What you are showing here is not scientifically accurate! Nothing could survive undamaged that close to a black hole!
--- Of course it's not scientifically accurate. It's science fiction! I'm well aware. All effects are for dramatisation and emphasis on the sci-fi-horror element.
3. There was never any blood on the hull in the movie!
--- I know. Like I said, it's my own interpretation of several, combined exterior shots from the movie with some personal touch added.

I could easily imagine an alternate story where the Horizon was left adrift for a few centuries... Until the year 2385. Where on the eve of retirement, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-E stumble upon an old pre-federation relic that was lost to history. And for all intents and purposes... It should've stayed that way.

Out of curiosity; was it the story, the acting, the science, or because it's a little twisted, that made you not like it?

A LITTLE twisted? The movie was one of the more convoluted I've seen.

Well, as far as technology is concerned, it's certainly not impossible (theoretically at least), but they added a horror twist. The multiverse theory is now pretty much accepted by science, so having another universe, or another dimension, in which violence dominates (after all, hell is just a word), why wouldn't that be possible? And the ship crossed over into that universe and brought something back. Not the first time that was done in sci-fi... I liked the twist at the end that left you wondering if all you saw was a dream, or reality, or what was going on. It's a sci-fi horror movie, not unlike Aliens with a decent cast. I wouldn't say it was the best movie ever made, but in this particular genre, it's definitely in my top 10.
Tastes vary though, and that is how it should be!

Yeah, I'm more a fan of Spy Thriller or sci-fi/epic movies. I was a massive fan of Star Trek Nemisis. This one wasn't a bad movie, I just really didn't like it. I'm not a big fan of horror to begin with, and this one was just TWISTED.

That's absolutely fair enough. I liked Nemesis as well, even if generally it wasn't all that well received. I'm not a huge horror fan, I particularly don't like the psychological kind of horror movies, movies that leave at least 50% to the imagination. Mine is quite vivid, so, I don't need incentive there. I also don't like jump scares, they're a poor way to instil fear. With Event Horizon it's different for me, because I like the scientific and sci-fi undertone. Pure horror films to the tune of "The Ring", "The Grudge" etc., while good movies in their own right, are not my thing either.

It is an excellent scifi horror movie, I admit sometimes I have a hard time deciding whether or not the Event Horizon is scarier than The Derelict ship from Alien. Both are extremely disturbing.

True. The only thing that would make the Event Horizon more disturbing is, that you can't ever be sure. Is it under control of someone or something, or has it indeed become something else; is it alive?
The Aliens are "just" a tangible life form, no different than any other predatory animal. Even with the sort-of prequel "Prometheus" that explains its existence further.

And the Aliens, yes a predatory animal, but still nasty. Here is a thought; imagine instead of AvP what about Aliens vs. The Thing, think about that for a second. Who would win? I would put money on the Thing.

Perhaps; both species have parasitic characteristics, although "The Thing" eventually (at least apparently) becomes its host while the Aliens merely use bodies as a womb of sorts. Based on "Prometheus" aliens were created by a plant merging with another life form (if I remember that correctly), so what would make me far more nervous would be the option of "The Thing" merging with an "Alien", and subsequently creating a new species. That species would be extremely resilient and far more dangerous than anything we've seen in sci-fi to date.
On the pure winning aspect, I'm not sure. We know both creatures are vulnerable to fire, but the Alien's acid blood may as well take care of an attack rather quickly. I'm not a huge fan of cross-overs, but this is one I wouldn't mind seeing if someone came up with it!

Yet both are parasitic in nature. Hmm a new species created from the two creatures merging, that could happen but remember the Thing can mimic down to the genetic level, so I am not sure if it would be a new species. The only thing new is when a Thing in Alien form mutates into a biomass to assimilate another Alien or human. Now that would be a disgusting sight to see XP. As for the acid blood defending against the Thing, in my opinion, I would think be useless. I mean the acid blood is made up of cells so I think the Thing would have no problem in consuming the blood but eh that is what I think.
To tell the truth I am not a total fan of AvP, the movie was pretty good but still I think they should be separate, but I think Aliens vs. The Thing would be an interesting movie or comic/story. I mean there is an Aliens vs Predator vs The Terminator comic for God sakes O_O.
I do have a cool scenario in my head of an Alien encountering the Thing. Ok a "human" inmate is put in a lab with a Facehugger, the Facehugger latches onto the inmate thinking it is a regular victim. When the victim starts convulsing and the head starts to split apart forming a type of mouth and crunches into the Facehugger. The acid blood melts some of the head away but the Thing compensates by adding more tentacles and teeth to completely consume the Facehugger.
For me this would be a really cool comic or movie scene to see.

Yeah cross-overs usually don't work; even though in this case it's almost plausible. As far as Alien vs. The Thing are concerned, both are life forms, both are (a form of) parasites, and there is no reason that either life form could not exist in our universe; we simply haven't discovered them yet (thankfully for once). And your story certainly would work well. I would have no problem watching that movie whatsoever!

Definitely one of the scariest Sci-fi horrors movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, it certainly ranks in the high top 10 of scary and sci-fi movies. Scary, because it's mainly mind games. Sam Neill can pull of crazy pretty well, too, considering his other roles I've seen him in (memorable roles), where he's completely different. Mood wise it's certainly similar to Alien, but at least there you know what exactly the threat is.

About Alien, though, the first one always seemed to add more to the creature every time it showed up, so you were never sure exactly what it would do next. Sure, we all know about it now, but if you'd never seen it before, you would have no idea what to expect.

Yeah, in fact, whenever I watch "Hunt for Red October", or "Jurassic Park" (among others) again, I'm usually doing a double take, even though I'm aware of him being part of the cast.
And true, but in Alien you knew it was something physical. In Event Horizon you only knew it was a presence, something 'the ship' brought back from 'another dimension' (or parallel universe, whichever), or something the ship became. A place that for all its purposes could only be described as hell. And let's face it, if you say the word 'hell', whether you believe in it from a religious stand point or not, we each have our own imagination of what that entails (probably a little different from how Dante Alighieri described it).
