Description What you see here is the end result of what started as a "simple" experiment.

I was trying to achieve the ST "warp effect" using Photoshop. This "fly by stars" effect, shown in pretty much every ST episode and movie to date is one of the hardest things to do from my perspective, especially if you want to try and make it look half way realistic in terms of Trekology.

---
Background: My own work. Starfield and nebula. Time ~ 1 hour-ish, PS.

Meshes: Enterprise-E by Ralph Schoberth.

Composition: Starfield created in PS. Nebula added on several layers. Rendered Enterprise-E with specific light setup in LW on black background. Used ALPHA to add render to PS on seperate layer. Created basic warp effect using several layers (approx. 25 altogether). Following further research found that the warp effect in the show actually has a "colour spectrum" applied. Used seperate layers applying a gradient with "hue" as layer mode and radial blur to achieve the steaks. Changed size and perspective of warp streaks and composited several layers for perspective to match. Added additional colour blendings to achieve the slight blue tinge of Trek episodes. Added additional lights etc. to Enterprise (in top of the nacelles) and a slight overall grain effect.

Total time approx. 8 hours with 29 layers used (not including the layers initially required for the warp effect).

Comments and critique welcome as usual. Full view definitely recommended. Enjoy.
