Description This image looks OK on my screen, but the color intensity, brightness and overall balance varies somewhat on the screens I have viewed this image on. Please keep that in mind when commenting!
A Klingon D6 cruiser sneaking up on its target through a nebula and asteroid field. Based on available footage from the excellent Axanar fan production! If you have time, go check out Axanar Productions   and The Light Works .
COMPOSITION: The entire scene was setup and rendered in Lightwave. I made my own geometry and texture modifications to the D6 model (addtl. position lights, texture changes, modeled my own torpedo launcher, etc.), nebula textures were rendered with Chaotica & Apophysis, and overlayed on a 'half-pipe' mesh. Asteroids were modeled in Lightwave, and then duplicated via instances. Post work via Photoshop and After Effects.

WIREFRAME:
MESHES: D6 by thefirstfleet (LWO conversion by billy-home , texture modifications, addtl. geometry & lighting rig by me), nebula + textures, asteroid models, D6 texture + geometry changes, composition & fx by me.

I think the lawsuit is more about jealousy on the part of the owners if the franchise! They see they are being outdone and cannot stand having less imagination that STA. It is a tactic designed to bankrupt a fanbased production to keep it from reaching publication! Shameful!

I'm sure that's a good part of it. Much has been going on in terms of discussion, and I'm starting to think it's very much a matter of not really knowing what they want. I'm sure they know that their 'nu-Trek' as it has become known doesn't really work all that way, and something like Axanar catering to what made the franchise great, not wars, but actually a depth to even a war like storyline. Paramound did the same back in the 90s when they tried suing all kinds of websites (fan websites) that centered on Star Trek, and it turned out to be a huge error and was eventually ceased. I agree with what a lot of people have been saying; Axanar and other fan production are free advertising. Take it for what it is. But you always get those overzealous attorneys, maybe some new hotshot trying to make a name for themselves...

One way or the other, the battle is not yet over. Plus, in my eyes, Paramount/CBS have already lost. There is more Star Trek in those 20 minutes of "Prelude to Axanar" than, names, locations, and the basics aside, in the last two films. I keep saying it; I appreciate the JJ Abrams movies for the technical skill, I appreciate the actors for doing a great job with reviving those iconic characters; all that. I cannot accept the idiocy of destroying not one, but the homes of two very established races in the Star Trek universe, and generally throwing a lot o establish technology guidelines out of the window; and all in the name of making Star Trek more mainstream.

Yeah; wasn't intended as a commentary on the lawsuit, but hell, I accept if it's seen as such. Figures that turning away free advertising makes perfect sense in the 'brain' of an attorney.

If you haven't seen it yet, this may still happen as a full movie: Prelude to Axanar

Thank you! It was worth the 8 hours for the base renders for the nebulae then.

8h? !!!!! Christ how patient are you ^^ soon as something hits 35min-1h i abort and start looking for ways to reduce it without loosing quality, my only exception being 4k and above.

Very patient apparently

I usually run two concurrently. I have an i7 at the office, so that can churn away while I work on other pieces at home (on my trusty old Core2Quad). Unfortunately, there isn't much in a way of reducing render time when it comes to fractals... but I remember the old days (late 90s early 2ks) and a Bryce render that took 18 hours on a Pentium III; 8 hours seems almost like a cakewalk!

i only ever dabbled in apophysis and i dont remember how long stuff took to render with it, anyway i applaud your patience mate!

Well, I kinda get fun out of the entire process, and over the years I've become more picky at my own stuff. If it doesn't look the way I want it to, I rather invest another few hours to get it right! If it's a personal piece, I'm under no pressure to get it done faster.
