beautiful as always. I wonder if you had a thought working out the leaves on the right / background a bit more. Perhaps i would have preferred that a bit, but you didnt, and I
love the painting nothing less!

Another winner! what color did you use for the reds? Looks like a quinacradone coral, one of my favorities

p-e-a-k In reply to baglady [2006-09-02 00:56:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

And yes, you are absolutely right: I used (Winsor & Newton) Quinacridone Red.

If you ever get a chance to use Daniel Smith's Quinacradone Coral, give it a try. It is fantastic for tropical flowers. Their Q. Gold is also one of my favorites!

Noted - thanks for the tip!
I'm afraid the only brand of watercolours to be found here is Winsor & Newton, but maybe I can ask a friend in the US to get it for me.

Another beautiful piece as expected.

Anyway, what does "cold pressed" refer to? You mean you really run a flat iron over your work?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

p-e-a-k In reply to ashknight [2006-09-02 01:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but this being the Philippines, I let the lavandera do the ironing, of course!

You kill me, Dan!
No, seriously and generally speaking, there are 3 types of watercolour paper: hot-pressed, cold-pressed and rough. This refers to the surface texture of the paper.
Rough - says it all.
Cold-pressed - some texture but much less than the rough paper.
Hot-pressed - totally smooth surface.
OK-lah?

Oh yes, and maraming salamat for the lovely butterfly photos - you are a dear!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ashknight In reply to p-e-a-k [2006-09-03 12:19:29 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yes, the mighty lavandera.

Oops, I shouldn't have asked that question. Now I feel embarrassed! Well at least now I know what cold/hot pressed is!

Did I just read "ok-lah?"!!? Haha, so you're a Singlish Ranger too, just like Thomas? Ahh, so it's in the genes.

Walang anuman. Glad you find them lovely.

p-e-a-k In reply to ashknight [2006-09-04 03:49:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's always something new to learn, and there's reallo no need to feel embarrassed!
OK-lah?
"In the genes" might be going a bit far, but 17 years in Singapore do leave their traces.....

17 years??? wow. And I'm only on my third! Haha.

The past few days i've been trying to impress my friends with my Singlish, but I get laughed at instead, because they said I'm not convincing enough. Aiyoh! If kenot, then how?Hahaha.
