if i remember what i read right, they're very shy animals and are really endangered. so, while there should be more in zoos to help their population, its not really surprising that there aren't

oh ._. it's a pitty many zoos only have these fame animals like giraffes, tigers, lions and ponies, but not many/none of the endangered species that need the support ._. >.>

well, it's a canid, yep... in Germany they also have the name Obstfuchs (uhm.. fruit fox would be the verbatim translation into english ^-^)

a raccoon dog is also called a tanooki. they're native to japan i believe. if you know super mario brothers the "raccoon suit/tail" is actually called a tanooki suit!
