Description This is basically a spontaneous drawing exercise that stayed around longer than it should have: it just didn't look right as an ink drawing, so I gave it some washes to round it out, so the whole thing ended up as more of an experiment. I did learn a bit about the Messerschmitt BF-109s though while going through all the reference material. I had no idea they were flimsy as hell and so cramped the pilot could barely move the stick around to get better performance; quite the difference from my impression of them as the sports cars of the Luftwaffe.

The scale of the ground crew themselves are a little wonky, but it was hard to gauge some aspects from the black and white, often slightly fuzzy, ref pics I found. One pic suggested that the wing roots were at shoulder height, while another suggested much lower.  Hindsight being 20x20, I should have referenced technical drawings as well as photos and leave little to my own analysis of the photos, which can be misleading because of perspective angles and so on.

Looking at this picture, I realize that I still haven't drawn a whole aircraft in any of my pictures, BUT on the upside, there is more than the usual cockpit and canopy.
