Description Tyr and Fenrir from Norse Mythology..! The Gods feared the wolf's strength and wanted to bind Fenrir with the binding "gleipnir", as thin as a silkin ribbon but stronger than any iron chain. However Fenrir would not let them bind him unless the god Tyr put his hand in the wolf's mouth as a pledge that they would let him go.. and when Fenrir realized he couldn't escape the binds Tyr's hand was, of course, ripped off. Not a good day for him.

I really enjoyed this story and wanted to illustrate it for class so huzzah *O* I'm not particularly excited with the results but the amount of hours I put into it is worth the upload I guess xD;

Ahaha! I saw the picture and I didn't recognize the word "Gleipnir" but I totally knew what the picture itself was referring to and I got all excited and it was worth getting excited... 'cause I like it. Anyway, I always felt bad for Fenrir since in the story I heard, it wasn't like he was going to do anything but people kept fearing him and chaining him up with different chains so it ended up being his plan to destroy everything all because of them.

I love it! The only thing that bugs me is that TΓ½r's left hand has been bitten of, rather than his right.

I don't know if you're at all into such things but this song, Gleipnir covers Fenrir's binding, albeit in Icelandic.

I thought his left hand was the one that was bitten off in the legend

Haha, I'm a bit late to return to this conversation. Sorry about that.

It was his right one. Taken directly from Gylfaginning is the text:

"..Týr lét fram hând sína hægri og leggur í munn úlfinum.."
which translates as
"TΓ½r put forth his right hand and placed it in the wolf's mouth"

Tyr did get a day named after him. Tuesday, Tirsdag in norwegian comes from Tyrsdag meaning Tyr's day. So at least he is remembered.

Great work.

You may not think it was that great of a job, but I think this is wickedly badass!

I am planning to finish my tattoo with a picture of Fenrir over looking the highest mountain of the gods, and every time I see awesome artists like you with pictures like this it just continues to re-make me so excited to have it done!

Somehow, so much changed in this piece from the last time I saw it. That man has...well, a face'n stuff. Not that the "URG I'M BLEEDIN'" face was bad. XD

But this turned out real good, despite all your suffering. The wolf...sorry we were so useless with that. -sobsob-
