Description Just a quick and dirty one ... I am still trying to get back into painting. Have been absent for too long So forgive me the rushed feeling to it!

I grew up watching the classic Star Trek Episodes on TV, and later moved on to the Next Generation but I always loved the classic crew more, so I had high hopes and also a lot of fear when I first heard that JJ Abrams would make the next movie. I had even more fear when I learned he wanted ro reboot the classic characters.

But what can I say - I just LOVED the movie. Awesome cast, amazing special-effects and just a thrill-ride and a lot of fun! Can't wait for the next two films

And to show how much I liked Zachary "Sylar" Quinto as Spock I wanted to make this fan-art. And of course it had to feature the lens-flare-effect!

Hope you like it!

Airbrush in Adobe Photoshop CS3 / Wacom Intuos2 A4 / Photo-reference.

Hello friend.

Long time no speak. Been crazy busy with work, family and side project. A doctor once told me "you'll never ride a pushbike again". Last year, I rode an international ultra marathon event, 1400kms in 4 days. Gave me a good channel for my efforts, and kept me sane for a while there.

How are you?

Yeah it's been a while! Time goes by so fast - it's shocking!

Wow that's great to hear! I bet your doctor is shocked now Amazing!!!

I am fine - thanks! Just busy with work and I still do not have enough free time! Still single - that's the only thing that I would love to change

Hope to read from you sson again!

Since I can't critique I'll do it here:
The biggest downside to this is the extremely thick white line. The ear looks sorta plasticky and under the nose there's a sharp faded white line which doesnt fit in too well. I do like the texture of the clothes though.Having a picture reference just makes it not original. I'd like to see some of your pantings made without a reference. That's why my Personal rating isn't too high; Rating: 3.0-3.5 (just to let you know I'm picky ok? )

If you don't like my art you don't have to critique it. I am always open-minded for all sorts of feedback - I know I still have a lot to learn but at least give a constructive critique!

Taking a look at your own gallery does not in any way justify your harshness against my work ... again - if you don't like it just ignore my work! As I will with yours!

And don't get me wrong ... I just can't understand why you posted that kind of comment ... and NO I don't want to know! So please don't answer!

rockyjob In reply to patricktoifl [2009-08-18 21:40:28 +0000 UTC]

You know, you asked for a critique didn't you? Do you know why I didn't state all of the good parts? Because I don't need to, they don't need any fixing! I'm not taking a personal stab at you, far from that. I actually enjoy your art and that's why I gave a rating on THIS PARTICULAR piece compared to others. Don't be offended, seriously, I don't doubt your art potential. Through some years you'll see a few comments that state some faults. They are not meant to offend, they are meant to help, that's a critique (it's a comment that may seem negative to some but actually just points out things you could improve) As to my gallery, you can see I'm not an expert: but part of art is to share knowlege, and I am just saying in my opinion what could be better. Make what you will of my comment, just don't take it as something negative. That wasn't my intention. Stay safe:
-Lucas

Of course I asked for critique - but for constructive critique. AND you are no member - so your comment does not qualify as being a critique.

I apologize for being so harsh - but I did not see any constructive criticism in your original comment - sorry! And I always try to give constructive critiques myself.

And yeah your definition is right - and I really like to receive critique as it's the only way to improve actually. But the sound makes the music ... and the sinle thing in your message that I really could not see any help was your comment about the thick white line. It was no critique in any constructive matter it was only a subjective matter. You did not like it. Point. But it was my artistic decision to do it like that and I love it that way. Point.

I'm doing good. and you?
It could be better at the university and my degree-- It's the first year for the degree in the whole Iberic peninsula, (Portugal and Spain together) so we are the first students in this area (Digital Games Design), and we're basically experimental ones.... T___T
They could have based the degree program on existing ones (such as the one in the Art Institute), but oh well...

Good to hear! I am fine too! But a lot of stress at work - so I don't find the time to draw or paint ... Hope this will change over the holidays! I recently did two paintings as commission work - but besides that I haven't done a painting for a long time now ...

You're studying Digital Games Design? Hell that's great!!! How long does this take? Do you laso learn to program or just the art and 3D-stuff?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VeraPeneda In reply to patricktoifl [2010-02-07 03:54:10 +0000 UTC]

I see... I've been having art blocks ever since I got into the Univ.... T___T It seems as if the University campus as eaten my brain... *or I'm just, as some people say, brain farting...*

Yes I am, but looking forward to continue my degree in the Art Institute if possible on the second year, so I can go to a more specific degree. Mine here in Portugal includes both programming and the art and 3D stuff, but what i really waht is just the art and 3d itself... I really don't understand much of programming, and I just simply hate math... so this is kind of killing me... We also study how to write the game's story, and as well as semiotics (I'm still trying to figure out why we need this last one...).

You did a fantastic job painting this. There's nothing I can really critique on the the anatomy. One thing that is a major positive for me which is an oddity is the lens flare. You're perhaps one of the only people I've seen that has used a lens flare right rather than letting it swallow the picture or explode up like some magic trick, it accentuates Spock's portrait. Fantastic work.
