A recently completed commission for Arikado, featuring the final moments in a duel between an Atlas and a Mauler mech from the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe.

Maulers are very fearsome foes, but are designed for long and medium range assaults. Up close and personal, its no match for a 100-ton brute like an Atlas.

Having just fired its heavy lasers for one last desperate shot at the charging Atlas, the Mauler's heat sinks are at their limits. As the Atlas rips open its side, the damaged heat sink there explodes catastrophically, ensuring the death of the 90-ton behemoth.

Digitally colored in photoshop from scanned inks, 2011. I approcched this much more like a painting when coloring it than doing the normal animation-cel coloring every artist seems so fond of these days.
