Description
Leo is becoming a bit of a muse for me - not only my favourite actor, a great philanthropist and a great guy to draw portraits from. I havent seen anyone draw him in this pose before, and put aside all of my other WIP drawings to complete this first
Drawn on A3 Bristol Board with my usual Faber-Castell 9000 pencils 4H through to 8B it took me about 20 hours to finish.

Love the detail in the skin! Do you scan your drawings? If so, what DPI do you set your scanner to?

Thank you - yes I scan my drawings, I usually have it set on 150DPI - the big problem I have is with stitching the scans together to form one image as the overlaps are never very sharp.

Ok, interesting. I'll lower my DPI to 150 and see how it turns out haha, 200/300DPI always looked a little off to me.

This I like! Very fine attention to detail, and a very complex level of shadowing. Gorgeous work, especially on the hair!

A lot of the hair detail was lost when I scanned the image and tried t stitch the various scans together - glad it didn't spoil the result for you

You take scans? A lot of artists prefer photographs due to the increased quality. It takes some skill to find the right angle, but there's that.

You've got different approaches, so it'd be interesting to see yours. Though I get what you mean. Once I've seen the best version of a portrait I kinda lose the enthusiasm to add another one to the mix

What strikes me as truly incredible about this portrait, Paul is that you can read pure emotion in the pores and skin tones. I love the emotion written in shade, from the forehead, eye and curvature of cheek - wonderful!
