Description UPDATE: I'm so sorry for hitting your inbox with this one again, but as I said below, my scanner sucks and I lost a load of details. But Ariel has her now and scanned her for me and it's soooo much better You can see the details in her face and hair now Thank you Ariel

I'm finally almost finished with my prizes, just one more ATC to go

This one is for for catching my 50K kiriban. I hope you like it The scan has wiped out some of the darkness and details because of the high contrast But thankfully Ariel you'll get to see them in the flesh

Thank you very much It's more tonal values that's been lost than anything, there is more detail in the skin in real Scanners aren't very good for graphite.

does the type of paper you use also have a big effect on the realism and sharpness of your drawings?

I think the type of paper makes a huge difference. I can't get the bright white and crispness on anything other than extra smooth bristol board or mellotex. Most other papers have some tooth and are slightly yellow, I don't like that for the most part. It's harder work to blend and work with but it's worth it I think

I've noticed many of the best artists i've seen use that type of paper. It's extremely frustrating I try but cannot seem to get that realism in portraits, they never pop!

okay I'm coming to you again for advice since I don't personally know anyone who can draw. I started to draw a pic of liz taylor, and have tried restarting three times but hate them all and cant achieve her likeness! This drawing block is driving me insane

I know the feeling, no one I know draws either

How do you get your sketch started? Do you use a grid? I always use a grid on any drawings where I need it to look a person, it makes a big difference. Also, flip your paper upside down and draw upside down, it makes your eye see what is actually there and not what you think should be there

never used a grid Ive always drawn freehand. my proportions seem good it's just the shape of her one eye, so I will definitely have to try that! Ive never heard drawing upside down though so thank you for the tips! My eyes definitely play tricks on me sometimes
