I just got the DVD Thursday and the cover looks horrible! The unicorn looks fat and has a creepy expression on her face
Not to mention it's all rainbowy cutesie... How do you spell those words? O_oSo I made my own cover. I tried to draw in that style. I'm not very good at backgrounds, but I tried to make it look like the backgrounds in the movie. Didn't work to well. The outlines on the unicorn are all jagged too. Magic wand tool ain't good for everything.
I'm gonna print this out and stick it in the box, 'cause I can't look at that ugly defalt cover anymore. :/
Used mostly Corel Painter 8 and some Photoshop 7

You must have been talking about the first DVD release, which not only had an atrocious cover, but grainy picture and sound (how can sound be grainy? get a copy and find out). Some time later they released a version with the infinitely improved German cover art, restored picture and sound. So someone pulled their head out of their *koff*.
Starting some time next week, Mr. Beagle and Co. will be touring the country with a new digital print of the movie, showing it in theaters and doing Q/A sessions. Should be awesome.
Lovely artwork, btw. Reminds me of the tapestries at the start of the movie.

I agree with some of the comments, it is not so much as 'identical' to the original last unicorn in the movie, but it's your own unique, personal style, one that I like very much, I can't really notice the jagged outline but I think that whatever you did suits it, very beautiful artwork coming from an amazing artist, keep up the awesome work! I also love the dark and mysterious look, rather than the rainbowy - happy sort!

Hi! Great pic! I LOVE "The Last Unicorn". I wonder where you got the DVD? I've wanted to find a copy of it on either VHS or DVD but DVD would be better. Do you like the movies "Legend" or "Labyrinth"? I just found the DVD of "Labyrinth" at Wal Mart earlier this week. Artisan needs to be shot. A lot. Then beaten to death with DVD cases for this movie, by irate fans. Because that movie is one of my fondest childhood memories, and the whole DVD - packaging, options, copy quality... absolute shyte. I stole my parents' copy of the VHS and got a friend to copy it for me, rather than pay for that travesty Artisan produced. [/rant]
Your drawing, by the way, is beautifully done. I very much enjoyed it. The neck and head are a little off for the unicorn from the movie, but that just gives it a unique personality. ^_^ A personalized tribute to a truly wonderful movie.
Incidentally, the German release of that DVD is both better-rendered and better-packaged.

Wow, it's not often that I favorite unicorns, infact I dont like them that much, but this one is wonderful! The style used is great, and I love the mane most of all. You get a gold star. ^_^

Have you read the book? If not, it's worth your time. By the way, the MOVIE (like... with live actors) is coming out winter 2005... I've read the script, and it goes along very nicely with the book. (except that they're making her tail look like a horse's, which is wrong).
As for your artwork, I like it. It goes along very nicely with the theme of the movie. If there were any one thing that bugged me about your picture, it would be the eyes. But then again, my standard goes to match the book, rather than the cartoon. I also love how you've made her seem to be of moonlight. Very pretty.

yes, i agree it IS a crappy cover. THE shittiest cover i've ever seen. i showed my friends the movie and they all laughed at me for liking something like that cuz they figured it was all magick and fairies and y'know, cute fluffy things.
then i made em watch it...and they were like WOAH THAT'S AWESOME. so yeah
and i love how you say your work isn't too good and you point out all the flaws...when there aren't any.
