In Depth:
Absent-Minded: having or showing a habitually forgetful or inattentive disposition. (oblivious, forgetful, preoccupied)
-Nate tends to bounce around oblivious to everything going on around him, except whatever crazy daydream he's in. Since he drank the aging potions he isn't as
oblivious and is starting to notice more, but it often disappoints him or makes him question things, which he doesn't like. So he ends up throwing himself at his
imagination and attempt to ignore the bad things in life. Often he now finds himself wondering about more than flowers and fun, his thoughts wondering about
mares and things he doesn't grasp, and although these are teenager's thoughts, he's still trotting around blindly, stuck in his own world.
Cunning: having or showing skill in achieving one's ends by deceit or evasion. (devious, sly, crafty)
-As much as Nate is oblivious he is incredibly intelligent and catches on a lot earlier than one might suspect, whether he gives it away is up to him. More often
than not he knows more than you'd think and can hide it really well. If he thinks something will upset you or something is going to go wrong, he'll quietly follow
unnoticed to make sure everything is okay, especially when he knows he isn't supposed to, it makes it all the more exciting.
Emotional: having feelings that are easily excited and openly displayed. (passionate, melodramatic, fervent)
-Even though he's been hit with a wall of hormones and doesn't know how to deal with the resulting mood swings and the darker side it brings out in him, he's
always been a bit.. sensitive. Nathaniel cries at sad stories and funerals, he loves passionately and innocently, he laughs too hard, and he tends to over-react
sometimes. Yet, the inconsistent moods and dramatic reactions make him rather easy to read. Lately though, he beginning to notice that people read him very
easily and is beginning to hide it somewhat. Still he is easily upset, but just as easily entertained too.
Gullible: easily persuaded to believe something (credulous, naive, unwary)
-If Nate trusts you he will willingly believe you, even if he doesn't know you. Often, he gives others the benefit of the doubt. It does get him in trouble sometimes,
but he isn't easily fooled twice. Mostly he is a bit too friendly and can be oblivious to underlying messages. He knows no stranger and subtleness eludes him, and
he probably won't ever catch on to small hints of flirting, or threats, or even sarcasm. He tends to take things pretty literally and he will believe a lot of things
that probably aren't true. Recently this has been frustrating him more and more, friends have to explain jokes and young mares seem to ignore him. He realizes
he's missing something but doesn't know how to pick up on some of these small social clues or where to begin.
Intelligent: having or showing intelligence, especially of a high level. (clever, erudite, intellectual)
-Though fooled somewhat easily, he is not dumb. In fact he is a wonderful student, learns easily. Nathaniel is incredibly book smart and picks up on little facts
really easily. His memory when it comes to reciting numbers and facts is quite remarkable, but he may not remember what he ate that morning. When he is fooled
though, it is often like the old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." and he will not be fooled twice. Nate is a quick learner and will
easily figure out a puzzle or the best way to organize something, but not so quick street wise. So once he is knocked to his knees and realizes the truth, he
won't let himself be fooled by whoever it was who fooled him again. To him it's a form of betrayal that, though if earned can be forgiven, truly hurts his fragile
heart.
Kind: having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature. (selfless, obliging, benign)
-Nate loves with all of his heart and does so with such sympathy and compassion that he almost burst with excitement from it sometimes. His family means a lot to
him, even though he doesn't always agree with them or their views, his loves them nonetheless. Amber means the most to him, he respects his parents and loves
to spend time with them, and even Uncle Thedus. But, he knows that for some reason Amber isn't always happy with him. He admires and looks up to Amber a lot
and would do anything to make her smile. Nate knows his mother often doesn't feel well but he loves her too, and his dad, but he appreciates Amber the most.
Still, even those outside his family are meaningful to him, and he treats everyone he meets with politeness and as much happiness as he can spread. The phrase,
"he (or she) would give the shirt off their back" suits him pretty well, because he would. If he thinks someone else needs it more he will stubbornly give it to them,
often times whether they want it or not.
Optimistic: hopeful and confident about the future (hopeful, cheery, positive)
-Now that he is starting to see more of the darker, realistic side to things, Nate is holding on desperately to this trait. Sometimes when he is in a bad mood he
seems to think it's all going to crash and burn but still tries to keep a smile on his face. Usually though he does hope for the best and tries not to worry about the
future too much. With Nate's innocent and cunning ways he does try to help situation positively. He tries to give helpful, happy solutions to problems he
overhears, without giving himself away. In many ways his suggestions are as innocent as he is, just because he hears some things, doesn't mean he's mature
enough to fully understand the underlying messages. The main thing is that at least he tries.
Officious: intrusively enthusiastic in offering help or advice; interfering. (nosy, opinionated, overzealous)
-This is what makes Nathaniel too much to handle sometimes. It's endearing in a way, but annoying in many other ways. He wants to be a part of everything, and
genuinely wants to help, but often is too helpful. He'll hover around and ask if you need help over and over, he'll ask if you need something if you don't want to
play. He will try to cheer you up when all you need is a moment of peace, he'll give you a blanket in the summer. He is nosy and if he feels left out will try to butt
his way in to whatever is going on and will loudly state his opinion, and his advice. While he has good intentions he often goes about it the wrong way and can be
too loud and too nosy.
Peace-maker: a person who brings about peace, especially by reconciling adversaries. (mediator, negotiator, dove)
-Amber has some harsh feeling towards her family and though Nate knows she loves them and that there is something about a sister he never met that really
upsets her. So a lot of times if there is tension or arguments between the residents of his household he tries to calm things down. He hates conflict and tries to
avoid it for himself but really loves his family, and wants them all to be happy. He doesn't understand why Amber gets upset sometimes but does all kinds of things
to prove his loyalty and love for her, because she's done so much for him. He also calms his Uncle down when he gets worked up about Amber or Nate's dad. His
parents only seem to argue when Lilliana is brought up and he tries to make them happy again too.

A delicate balance:
-After Lilliana's disappearance nothing was right between Eliam and his wives or his remaining daughter. Their family was shaken. Roselia couldn't bare to live knowing
they'd banished her daughter, Myrtle was deeply hurt at the sight of her half-sister, and Eliam was distraught. It was not long before Roselia left, and the family was left
bare. Myrtle was so upset she began to pick arguments with Eliam, who being just as torn argued back. They never did so in front of Amber, but it put a strain on them
both. Thedus didn't quite help this tension, having large opinions on the disappearance of his sister and niece, and it began to drive the couple to a breaking point. For
Myrtle it was when Amber asked, "Mommy, is it my fault?". Myrtle hadn't the heart to tell her young, spirited daughter the truth yet. But, this time she did. She
explained, tears welling several times. Myrtle later approached Eliam and slowly, their relationship improved. It wasn't for another year or so that they felt love again, and
as a result Myrtle fell pregnant.
Fairy Tales and Butterflies:
-With such trying times it was not a good time to foal. But for the first time in a long time, Eliam and Myrtle felt some semblance of peace. Myrtle swore to her strength
throughout the pregnancy but her health continuously declined. Thedus was the one to enforce Nathaniel's early delivery, and at that point Myrtle could only weakly
protest. Nate was born knowing only love and though his mother is so often sick and his father often away, he is surrounded by family that he adores. He loves Amber
and wants to be just like her, strong, brave, and kind (in her own way). He's grown hearing much from his Uncle and though he likes Thedus, the most the oblivious foal
picks up from him is to be opinionated. His younger years were filled with what seemed like butterflies and rainbows to him. He followed Amber around when she was
home, and his family around the farm, when she was gone.
Teenage Title:
-As Nathaniel aged though he began to feel the pressures of their society. He heared Amber and Thedus's arguments and the ones between his mother and his uncle.
While he knows his eldest sister is gone, he knows nothing of her, besides she causes a lot of pain in their household. While he plays dumb well, he still gets upset easily.
So when he turned ten he thought himself ready to help Amber and be who he wanted to be, and what was expected of him. Because that was how his family loved him
right? by fitting in? He tried so hard to gain more of Amber's attention and praise as a stallion, trying to conform to her expectations and the rest of his family's. The
emotional build up in the household exploded when Amber came home hurt and furious about the way things were. Thedus stated that she should do as expected of her
"Amberley", and their fight boomed from there. Nate tried to calm everyone down but was only shooed away. No one took him seriously! He was just a baby! Well he'd
show them!! He'd fix it all. He'd drink an age potion and show Amber that not all war-forged stallions had to believe that stuff, he'd show them he was old enough to be
heard!! So he gulped down some aging potion that he'd broken some glass to get to and began to take it. Thedus heard the noise, now quietly fuming to himself, and
went to check it out. "What are you doing!?" He was furious, his telekinesis ripping the bottle away from him. He shouted at Thedus as he quickly grew four years older,
letting his emotions go. Didn't they see him for who he was? That he did everything for his family? For their family? At some point tears had began pouring from the
colt's eyes. He was in a lot of trouble, given the hard chores around the farm and not allowed to go out for a while.
-Life since then has been difficult. The whole family was shocked. Amber and Nate are improving and Thedus didn't speak to him for a week, Eliam tried to have a heart to
heart (didn't go to well), and Myrtle just told him to be who he wanted to be, before falling back asleep. Now Thedus mentions him getting married in a few years, which
Nate doesn't understand. He wants to be a simple farmer, because he loves plants and flowers, they want him to do something strong, like that will "fix" the gender
"confusion" Amber has with her rank. So he continues to play dumb and tries to adjust, not really realizing he lost four years of his life.
