Description You can find the other Historical Disney Warrior Princesses here: pelycosaur24.deviantart.com/ga…

Finally another installment of my historical Disney Warrior Princess series! Since I ran out of human princesses (well technically since I drew the last Princess Moana came out…) I decided to include two animal princesses/Queens – Nala and Faline. I started with Nala, Queen of the Pridelands. This was the first time I ever drew a humanized animal so this was quite the challenge, but I like how it turned out!

When and Where?

Since Mount Kilimanjaro can be seen in the movie the Lion King it can be assumed that it takes place either in the North of Tansania or the South of Kenia.

Commentary

I decided to base the dress of my humanized Nala on the dress of the Maasai, who are probably the most well-known ethnic group of Eastern Africa. The Maasai warriors have a very distinct dress and undergo an initiation ritual between the age of 12 and 25 – some sources claim that this ritual used to include a ceremonial lion hunt. Today the Maasai will only hunt lions that attack their livestock. Every time a new generation of warriors is initiated the old generation will become junior elders, responsible for political decisions and cut off their long hair.

Beg to disagree, the movie "Lion King" is going on in an imaginary location representing all of Africa.

The huge sand dunes Simba is running past back to Pride Land can be found in the Namib desert in Namibia. The smoldering volcano we see Scar viewing the goose-stepping hyenas, that is Erta Ale in Eritrea. The huge waterfall in the opening scene is Victoria Falls, aka. Mosi ya Tunya at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The delta in savanna land, that is either the internal Nile Delta in South Sudan or the Okavango delta in Botswana. There isn't any scene from West or Central Africa but we understand that all of Africa is meant to be portrayed.

Interesting! That makes sense in a way!

Could she have been a San instead?  I ask that because, in the "Circle of Life" sequence, we see real-life meerkats, and they lived in the Kalahari, not the Serengeti.

Good work, like how you can see the lioness in the human face.

I was wondering, you wrote "Since I ran out of human princesses", have you done Eilonwy and Calla and I can't just find them?

Pelycosaur24 In reply to Gamiel [2017-12-20 21:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I was surprised how well the design worked out

Well for those two I could not really figure out a time and place that would have been convincing enough

I don't know for Calla but for Eilonwy I would look at dresses from pre-Norman invasion Wales

Ok, I will add it to the list! Lets see when I get around to it

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2017-12-20 22:28:53 +0000 UTC]

Yup, so lets see how Kiara will turn out.

On that note, what do you think of the new genetic study from a few month back proving that the skin color of the homo sapiens leaving Africa was actually white and the pigmentation in Africa is a result of environmental changes happening since then.

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2017-12-24 09:57:13 +0000 UTC]

Lets see if I get that far

Ah, interesting... I guess there is so much still to be discovered in the genetic material

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2017-12-29 13:21:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure you will! even tho I guess you are very bussy these days, with the traning and lessons. Tactics and Strategy must be very intersting, or will you study that only during later semesters?

Yes, its interesting, tho quite logical, as africas climate was very different back then, even the Sahara was green and also humans were a lot closer to apes, and as like an ape wihout fur is white/pinkish and not black, humans shading their fur should't have been black from the begnning.

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2018-01-13 11:27:42 +0000 UTC]

Well for now we are mostly learning how to crawl through the forest with our guns... the whole strategy stuff will later be taught at the military academy...

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2018-01-13 22:33:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see, so its more like the basic military traning right now, cool.

Yeah, it is... but apparently it is no match for what is to come in the next 7 months.... O.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2018-01-25 15:16:02 +0000 UTC]

Why what will the next 7 months be about? Mountin or para troops traning?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2018-01-27 14:35:29 +0000 UTC]

We start of with mountain training, but only half of us will be able to move on to the military academy... so they will try to convince half of us to give up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2018-01-27 15:44:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh then I was right XD that suprises me, was just a wilde guess with the mountine troops traning, tho with the alps there its logical.

Well that sounds challanging for sure, 50% dropout rate, still I'm sure with your dedication you will succed

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2018-02-02 16:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I hope so too - but I am very confident that I will be accepted at the academy!

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2018-02-24 19:49:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I am back, parts were fun, not the part where we went up a mountain with machine guns and stayed outside at minus 25 degrees for 24 hours

Thank you, I will

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2018-02-24 21:39:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, now you party know how our boys felt like fighting on the Isonzo front 100 years ago. I think that is pretty cool. Did you perhaps managed to repel an all out Italian advance and capture around 3000 thousned of them with your 300 men? Cuz if yes; from then on I would start calling you Young Lady Rommel
