11th installment of the series - Mulan

When and Where?

It is very obvious that Mulan takes place in China. For the time there were again several elements from different eras mixed in with one another. In the end I found that the Han-Dynasty was the most consistent match. Both when it comes to clothing and historical context. It was during this time that the Huns actually posed a threat to China and it was under Han rule that they were defeated.

Commentary

Of course Mulan is already a warrior; however she never appears in her armor in any of the historically accurate Disney series here on DeviantArt. So here she is as a Han Dynasty Swordswoman.

You have presented Mulan as a soldier of the Han dynasty. Fact is however that Mulan in the movie is presented fairly correctly in armour of the following Wei dynasty 5th until 6th century. So IMHO in this case I think that Disney got the better of You.

This one is fairly accurate, especially the ring pommel of the sword, I like it! The best thing is the red fabric chosen, since the one in the movie depicts gray color . Not sure why Disney chose the grey colors for the depictions

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pelycosaur24 In reply to Gambargin [2016-04-28 15:37:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Gin! I was really glad it turned out as well as it did. The ring pommel seems to be very characteristic of Han Swords, and I saw one other version of historic mulan using it . Yeah, the red just appeared in the most depictions I found. hm... maybe Disney was thinking too much of the Terracotta Army

Well its also a pretty interesting Β period and topic, not much discussed in Europe or western culture, however we still had a large influence over it.

No problem i totally understand! I myself was very busy too the past two weeks. Β

Ah cool! It is always great to have classmates from all around the world - I once had one from China myself but that was over 14 years ago.

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2016-04-06 20:20:05 +0000 UTC]

Uh... you have a Chinese classmate when you were 4? That is pretty wicked XD

But yes its true that its good to have a multinational class or team where you study or work. Expect that in my experience Chinese most of the time lack the professional English skills or simply the ability for it, to actually fully understand professional English. They have a totally different grammar and even letters... well those are not even letters so its pretty hard for them... don't get me wrong they are part of my best friend circle currently and we can talk easily in English, but when it comes to more complex sentences and tasks... well its a bit annoying when I have to explain everything... even the core of the exercise three times in a row... XD Β Β

Interestingly I had no similar experience with any other people from around the world, not even from the middle east Β or south America.Β

No when I was 6 in first grade.

I have not made such an expirience yet, because I have not yet worked together with anyone from east asia... mostly just Europeans and Americans

BeskarKnight In reply to Pelycosaur24 [2016-04-16 15:45:52 +0000 UTC]

Well okay, that is still pretty early to have international classes.Β

Yes its a bit different to have to work with Asians and south Americans, but I still very much enjoy the valuable experience.Β

Pelycosaur24 In reply to BeskarKnight [2016-04-20 19:48:28 +0000 UTC]

Same here.

Wow, that is pretty cool and interesting. What is the focus of the project, for medical operations, like surgical assistance, or Β more like for implants for amputated and deformed patients, or is it more like what GE dose like making process solutions software/applications for better use of resources, expertise and equipment? I mean because this all kinda fits into medical informatics XD Β Β

The Han had to learn to move fast and hit hard to defeat the Huns. Your "Mulan" caught this.
