I bought this book yesterday and have improved exactly this much! And that's just from studying the first two pages. I can't wait to get further into it.
Oh yeah, almost forgot... the book is called 'Drawing Cutting Edge Comics'. Seriously, if you see it, pick it up. It's good stuff.

this might sound realllly weird, but to draw this, what paintbrush did you use, and in what program?

It does sound a little weird, since you can see the program up there in the category. I don't know if Flash (for me, I think it was Flash CS2) has any other brush tools besides just the plain ol' paintbrush. Still, I've developed kind of a technique with it, as you can see with this and my newest Maker game.
I should probably make more of these tutorials, since I've gotten a lot better with human faces now...
