Description relatively simple, just a bird base with some point splitting going on.

I folded this one from a 27 cm square of lokata. it's not much larger than the original draft, but much cleaner and holds its shape much better

For comparison, here is the first version: [link]

and here is the second version: [link]

neither of these two got any comments though. XD

I hope you are not complaining the model doesn't have eyes... it was supposed to be a simple model, so I focused on the shape and proportions rather than deails...

In some other image i said this same thing before. That one had some folding near eyes which you explained me.Also you did said something like it was a simple model.Anyway,i don't know much about the differences. How about a Megalodon ?

PeteriDish In reply to SameerPrehistorica [2013-06-25 14:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Megalodon? not a chance. not after this model: [link] as you can see, there is no point in trying, there is no chance I could make one that would be at least comparable. when I do models, I try to fill empty niches, or I pick subjects that are already represented in origami, but are not "good enough" which gives me an opportunity to create a better version of that subject.
I might end up making models of prehistoric fish, but not megalodon. A friend of mine comissioned me to make Edestus, I'll see how that goes...

Dunkleosteus is interesting, and so is Xiphactinus. I would really like to design Xiphactinus, but that will take a lot of time...

Orthacanthus would be a great companion for my Diplocaulus, as well as the amphibial Lysorophus. If you know, could you tell me what other animals (preferably small fish) coexisted with Diplocaulus?

Gerrothorax is the only other prehistoric amphibian i have designed, but now I'm starting to think about redesigning it, I am still not sure about the model...

I am currently working on a series of prehistoric reptiles, I have already pinned down the structures of the models but I still need to fold them.

The series will include Mosasaurus, Brachauchenius, Metriorhynchus, Kronosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Nothosaurus, Tanystropheus, Mesosaurus and hopefully also Elasmosaurus, but I haven't created a good enough structure for it yet. All of these are going to have teeth, so I will maybe consider making a more detailed version of ichthyosaurus too, but I am not sure about that yet. it might be cool to add Mixosaurus, Cymbospondylus, Shonisaurus and Shastasaurus, but those are just plans for the future XD

Are you saying, you can't able to make it ? Is that guy made the mouth of Megalodon by cutting paper or just by folding ?

PeteriDish In reply to SameerPrehistorica [2013-06-27 02:27:50 +0000 UTC]

my skills are limited and good sharks are very hard to do

and yes. The shark is one sheet, no cuts. if he cut the teeth out, that would be no fun.

PeteriDish In reply to JWArtwork [2013-06-18 14:06:57 +0000 UTC]

hahahah, no, not at all!
but what I could do is fold a scale figure of a human! XD (I mean, "to scale" with this folded ichthyosaurus XD)
I only made the diplocaulus that way because the design was really efficient, only losing a few centimeters in the total length in comparison with the length of the starting square's edge, but with this ichthyosaurus, I would need paper that has an edge length twice larger than the length of the animal in order to make it happen, because the design is not very efficient, producing a model which is only 0.6 of the edge's length long, and I have no way of obtaining a 5 meter square, no way of transporting it home and nowhere to fold it once I get it home XD It is simply way out of my range of possibilities at the moment XD

JWArtwork In reply to PeteriDish [2013-06-18 14:15:18 +0000 UTC]

And then think about where to put it once you're done. But it was a joke. The human scale figure idea sounds cool, tho.

PeteriDish In reply to JWArtwork [2013-06-18 14:34:33 +0000 UTC]

yeah! and way easier to achieve! and I knew it was a joke, I might have as well replied: "oh heeeell no!" XD

JWArtwork In reply to PeteriDish [2013-06-18 15:33:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. You could make an entire terracotta army of origami soldiers and put them in the bedroom of your parents/brother/sister (if you have any or are still living with them) and make them wonder what's going on if they wake up...

PeteriDish In reply to JWArtwork [2013-06-18 16:04:28 +0000 UTC]

my mom would get a heart attack if she woke up to a LIFESIZED!!! (XD) group of ancient warriors XD I can'd do that dude! XD

JWArtwork In reply to PeteriDish [2013-06-18 19:38:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, how about filling the floors of your house with thousands of mini-soldiers (+- 20 cm) That would make an impressive sight!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to JWArtwork [2013-06-18 19:52:31 +0000 UTC]

indubitably, but thousands of soldiers would take multipple thousands of hours to fold! XD

You need to make a "How to" oragami book.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to Leggurm [2013-06-17 09:05:09 +0000 UTC]

hahah, I am actually planning on doing that! But I need more models like this one, people wouldn't be able to fold the more complex stuff even with diagrams, and those who could, could do that just from a crease pattern. XD

And I have another model in the works right now, a mosdasaurus with teeth!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leggurm In reply to PeteriDish [2013-06-18 06:16:10 +0000 UTC]

*Gasp*! With teeth?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to Leggurm [2013-06-18 07:52:57 +0000 UTC]

yep! and it's actually gonna be slightly longer than the starting square because its symmetry line lies on the diagonal and basically the only paper "lost" along the entire diagonal is the mouth. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leggurm In reply to PeteriDish [2013-06-18 22:46:59 +0000 UTC]

I don't speak oragami, but that sounds great.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to Leggurm [2013-06-19 06:15:32 +0000 UTC]

hahah that's just geometry if you use the diagonal as the symmetry line of your model rather than a midline parallel to the edges, you have 1.414 times longer length to work with. of course there is gonna be some paper "lost" or "hidden" when folding, but you still have a pretty good chance of making quite an efficient design.
(that means that the final model is "big" in comparison with the original size of the square. For example, the mosasaurus I am working on is gonna be longer than the starting square, but only insignifficantly so. XD still, it is not very common to design something that ends up being longer than the edge of the starting square)

yeah! I actually use printer paper a loot for doodling! XD Sadly, no instructions for this model yet, I have just quickly thrown it together and uploaded the least crappy pic I had... XD
